Malibu 3.5t A Class true weights

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone has a small Malibu I 441 or similar Cathargo sized A Class.

They are plated at 3.5t but I think that by the time there is the usual running weight items fuel water occupants are added the pay load will be small for bikes chairs etc.

Does anyone own one and have any experience.

With Carthago and Malibu an awful lot depends on the packages and factory fitted extras. The weights of some items such as fuel, driver, single gas bottle and limited water have to be included in the MIRO so they will already be allowed for in the published payload figures. If you are thinking of buying a second hand one I suggest getting it weighed before you buy, you can then work out what payload you might have available.

If buying new Carthago are pretty good at giving accurate weights for packages and extras but be aware that manufacturers are allowed a 5% tolerance. On a motorhome with a MIRO of 3000kg and a plated weight of 3500kg it will be advertised as having a 500kg payload BUT 5% tolerance on 3000kg is 150kg and this would come off the payload reducing it to 350kg. Carthago were past masters at using most of this 5% and could predictably come in at 130kg heavier than advertised. New EU regulations which now impose minimum payloads on manufacturers seem to have curtailed Carthagos’ old habit, my new Malibu Van came in almost bang on the advertised weight and gave me the payload I was expecting.

Regulation is there to regulate the "habits" (cheating) you relate.
And we hear so much here, and now from the US about junking regulation.
Exceptions apply, but in most cases regulation is required to reign in the unwise, the greedy, the dishonest.
Does'nt always work eg, water industry have just been rewarded for breaking spill laws 500 times since 2022 without being fined. Must'nt upset shareholders?
