Thanks but my version reverts to 3d at the first available opportunity which is irritating as I only want 2d, NEVER 3d

2D but have you tried it. When one goes to the go to where you are button (dot with circle round it and four short lines sticking out) it reverts to 3D whether you like it or not and of course I don't. Plus which I set it to North UP which it takes as flexible. I want an application that does what it is told and not what it thinks, usually erroneously, that it knows better. Why can programmers not give one an option to tell the app to do only what it is told.

I'll try it and let you know.

I tried the 2D setting today and it worked fine.

Have you tried the Auto setting? This reverts to a 2D view at junctions, roundabouts etc which clarifies which route you should take.

No I have not tried the Auto setting as it is not what I want, I want it to do what it is told and not what it thinks I want which is almost always wrong. It is a .long story why I think I know best but I do and will relate the story sometime if wanted to. If you look at the position marker when you zoom to it, is it circular or oval. If oval it has reverted to 3d. I am a map reader and I want it as a moving map with admittedly my route marked on it but in 2d not 3d. It may not be too serious a point but I find it irritating when theses things think they know best which they almost certainly do not.

My map is definitely 2d. In settings and general I have day style set at basic 1 modern. Try that.

Thanks Barry, I set it to Basic1 but could not see how to set it to MODERN. Without that it is still defaulting to 3D. Whether that fixes it I do not know. Under Navigation in settings it still claims to be 2D but it is NOT, the home circle is still oval

I get loads of options for different map types including basic 1 modern but I cant remember if I somehow downloaded them or not. Its ages since I fiddled with it so I forget. It might be worth emailing them. They take an age to answer though. support@magicearth.com

Ah now when I do the on screen ( two fingers) change to 2d it stays as set so I think I am happy. Time will tell but thanks for the advice.

It took me a while to get it how I like it. Still a work in progress really but I am hoping to properly use it in anger this summer in Europe. Got all the Aires from CC Infos loaded already :D

A bit early! The CCI database is updated as and when changed information is discovered by the volunteer administrators or advised by operators or users of aires. You might try installing the CCI web app on the same mobile device (not a PC) as Magic Earth and check whether you can use the "GO" option that appears on the pop-up when you touch an icon (don't know whether it's restricted to those with a subscription) to launch your navigation app. This will enable you to use the live database when you have an Internet connection and you can update your offline version as and when, which, even without a subscription, should provide you with some useful info from the database rather than being restricted to the basic satnav version of coordinates, name and number. PM me if you want any assistance with this.

Thanks. I had anticipated I would need to update them nearer the time but it was just an experiment I tried on the Magic Earth thread last year. Will have a look at what you suggest and let you know if I need any help. The good thing is that you can import them to Magic Earth though and of course use them offline.

Yes, Barry, I just rebooted and went back in and all is ok. Seems to be all 2d as desired. Thanks. Aires are just of academic interest now as we have let our passports lipase so not going abroad unless the world suddenly changes for the better and we go to the bother of getting new ones which is unlikely though daughter wants to have a family holiday in the sun sometime so who knows.
