I have a buyer for my m/h, he wants me to take a check, and i keep the documents until check clears,but i supose he could easily get new docs,your advice is urgently reguired

or if he is on internet banking, he could transfer the cash into your account and within two hours it will be cleared, he can then drive away happy.

both our accounts HSBC and Halifax clear within 2 hours

definitely no cash no van.......

I sold a car to a guy i'n work and give him the car but i didn't get the money... I phoned the police who said, tough, possession is 9/10 of the law, the log book is irrelevant, I told him I was going to get the car back with my spare key, to which he replied, if you do I will have you for theft!!! So I would agree, no money no van, simples
 
I would suggest that the safest method is electronic transfer. An immediate bank transfer can be made using the CHAPS system for a nominal fee. CHAPS payments are irrevocable. Consider meeting the buyer at their bank and completing the transaction there.

A BACS direct credit payment is an alternative, but I understand that they can potentially be reversed.

I concur with all the above. Nobody will be having ours until the funds are cleared in full.
 
Dont!

Don't take the bank's word that the cheque has cleared. If it is forged
then you will lose out. Wait until the money is showing in your account.

Don't trust cheques or banks.
