LPG filling problem

I can't fill up! The tank is only 25% full, and everything is working fine interesting van. I've tried twice at different filling stations, and I've checked the hose is correctly attached. It tries but won't put any in. There's the usual puff of gas when I disconnect. Has anyone else had problems like this?

More Info please

1) Is it a tank or a bottle ?
2) Are you using the correct adapter?
3) What country are you in?
4) When & what country did you last fill without a problem?
5) How do you know it is 25% full?

It's a tank.in yhe chassis. I'm in the UK so don't need an adaptor. I fitted it about 6 years ago, and have had no problems until now. I'm in NW Scotland. It's got an led level indicator, which is ready empty, but there's quite a bit in there.

Had it happen a few times in the UK only. Never abroad with our old Gaslow system on our old van. One pump it ended up spewing LPG all over the place. The woman in the garage said a few people had had issues with it though and next time I went it had gone. I also remember one or two doing what you describe. I thought I had a problem also until I filled up at another LPG station with no issues.

So that eliminates some possibilities.

My only suggestion is to ask is it possible that the tank is full?

Other than that I suggest you google the problem or contact an LPG fitting company.

Had very similar problem, would fill at one pump ok but not the other,at the SAME garage. Eventually they changed that pump

My LED indicator was reading nearly empty and when the chap tried to fill it it only took a couple of litres (20 litre tank) and the gauge read full again.

I had this happen to me once.

I believe that the pressure being presented by the filling pump was way too high and that a valve inside the onboard filling system had closed to prevent damage.

I went to another garage and the filling process was normal.

Have you used these two filling stations in the past? If not, try a third perhaps.

You could have a faulty filler hose from your fill point to the tank. They can split inside and when you try to fill they bulge on the inside and seal the hose. You can't see this type of damage from the outside. Highly likely though is a gauge fault are you sure your tank is not full.

Those green led gauges are notoriously inaccurate and easily affected by outside temperatures, personally I’d run it till totally empty and keep a ready meal in the fridge for when you’re positive it’s empty.

Autogas 2000 at Thirsk print a very good guide to the gauge levels. My first 11kg (21 litres) bottle sat just shy of the line between the yellow and red sectors almost 2 weeks ago, and the refill cutoff operated at 13.75 litres in warm sunshine. So that gives approximately 1/3 of the bottle left.

Thanks for all your comments. I eventually ran the tank to empty. By then I was back in Dorset, and it filled as normal! I fitted the tank about 6 years ago, which I got from Autogas 2000 in Thursk. I rang them, and they were very helpful, explaining that the 80% cutoff valve in the tank, which is foat operated, might have got stuck but unlikely, as most of the filling problems are from the pump, which is born out by the comments here.
