Last year I managed to break the pull out step by leaving it out while driving and hitting a curb. I am to tight to get a replacement and have bought a stand alone step, well four so far. If anyone sees a step sitting all forlorn and alone anywhere it will mean that I was there before you.

I acquired my very nice as new Fiamma Magnum step on the aire at Château de Valençay a couple of years back

When we arrived there was only one other motorhome ( French ) there and they were just pulling out to leave :drive:

I flashed and waved at him to try and tell him he was leaving his step but he just glared, mouthed something at me and drove off :mad1:

We stayed the night then the next day and only left on the third day by which he hadn`t returned so i said ....... Merci Beaucoup Monsieur Froggie and drove off with it

I left our double step out and hit a metal post in a fuel station in France, I had to kick it repeatedly for it to retract but when we arrived home I stripped it down and straightened all the parts, it is as good as new now.
Carol also leaves steps everywhere so she will smile and blush if she reads this thread

When we picked up our Hymer the electric step didn't work so they had a set of steps to get in. So after hitching the car on the back to come home I got into the drivers side door which we hadn't had on our previous van and drove off. So when we pulled into the services and looked for the step "doh" realised it was still back where we left it. So glad I'm not the only one

You chaps with the pull-out steps .... No buzzer or warning light to tell you?

I have forgotten about the step being pulled out loads of times but never actually driven away with it out as I have a light on the dash that comes on, plus a VERY loud buzzer which is impossible to ignore.

Old fashion perhaps, but I still do a walk round before pulling away. Not that I have a step to leave out or behind.

Mine had a buzzer too, which occasionally worked whether the step was in or out.

Our CI Meridian had the same type of double step but when you started the engine it automatically retracted, it was good apart from the number of times I stepped out expecting it to be there

So what steps do you intend to take now?

We meet a guy last year who had a step that retracted when he turned the ignition key. His wife had really hurt herself when it retracted with her standing on it. Ours just makes a very loud bleep when you turn the key with the step out. Didn’t stop me bending it on a grass bank though.

I cant leave it out, Mine drives your brain curdled in a few seconds, I stuck a sharp thing into the buzzer and that cut it by half, so it is bearable now, finding the damn thing whilst it was going was difficult with both hands in the ears.

At what point do you break even on replacing the pull out step? 5,6 stand alone?

Well a new step seems to be over a £100 and stand alone are about a tenner, but I'm really going to concentrate from now on and perhaps only lose one a year.

Ah if only you lot could build a real van.:lol-053:
You put the left foot out you put the right foot in then you wiggle it all about to find the steps not out.

Not steps but roof windows

I used to drive off with the window open, now I put a cap or other item in front of the speedometer which reminds me to check.
Simples.

When I had wind down legs on one van I always put the handle accross the pedals.
