Loss of sites, members v visitors

Well it's Friday night and just having a quick look at the site before the last of the packing's done and we move off for Aldeburgh... and I see that the site has just three members, but 38 VISITORS!!! Who are they all and why don't they join???

My thoughts are, if we are going to loose our best sites due to them becoming too popular; then perhaps Phil/Admin should restrict access the the campsite listings to members, and to access the list perhaps you should have to list... say three sites first. That way the site/list grows and 'takers' do not gain 'our' sites?? Just a thought - Comments please!

Very difficult - If some-one who was a "regular" asked me by Pm if I knew anything about an area then I would try to help.
Would I directly post into the Archive? After the Aldeburgh debacle I very much doubt it

I often visit as a guest and only log onto the site when I want to post a response, maybe others do the same who clear their internet passwords and cache?

I've just checked and I'm the ONLY member online but there are 29 guests now!!

Thats a very sensible thing to do, if we loose the wildcamping spots this site will become obsolete and i for one would not want that to happen:eek:

Gawd - this is horrible, isn't it? I feel a complete **** for even suggesting what I have but I really see no other way forward
I think that poor Mikejay and Nomad had a nasty experience earlier this year when they went to West Wales. They found that the site they had proposed to use had been sectioned off and it was a case of "No over-nighting, no spitting, no fun"

i sometime browes without loging on if theres nothing to add why log on?
the complicated question is free for all to view or a closed site
as far as having a private site it would be good for members only but easly accesed by some usless nerds
may be a seperate password given out by admin for members to access the full site might work
and just have the new posts only on show to all ,
but if the site were for members only how would any new members know what we were all about ?
does admin realy want to run two sites at once? and i assume at twice the cost
i only found this site by doing a search for wild camping and if i could not have viewd it first i would not be here now !
i hope an answer is forthcomming its to complex for me

I think we have to remember that this is not the only site that gives wild or overnight stays, at least 3 other sites that I know of does, and many more that I dont know.
Stop beating your self up and except that as a growing hobby and an expanding cost, a growing amount of people will be looking to park up for free.

Well thanks chaps, I didn't mean to stir up a hornets nest, but it's got you all thinking about what's happening to our hobby - I now also understand who some of those 'visitors' are... it's us, but not logged on yet!!

It just made me think how the power of the internet, the popularity of these sites and word of mouth has turned nice areas attracting a few motorhomes at the weekend into places that to my knowledge attract 20-40 motorhomes, 3 or 4 vans and a couple of caravans (or 60 motorhomes if you believe the Eastern Daily Press! - who STILL have not confirmed the date of such a large gathering!)

It does also concern me how we are being blamed for so many problems at Aldeburgh, from spoiling the view to erroding the sea wall!!! Perhaps it's time to move on and find somewhere else... after all this island has hundreds of miles of coast - I just can't afford the fuel to see them all... sorry don't get me started on that one!!!!
