Look Locally for Wild Camp sites

How many of us look in our immediate vicinity for potential wild camp sites??

After all, living locally, we know not only where good places are, but also what is around there, shops, pubs, walks, views and if BT FON is available.

If we share as many spots with info to our group there are many advantages.

By encouraging people to your area this may help your local business.

If we can increase the number of locations in close proximity, the existing ones will not get overused and therefore we reduce the potential for complaints so the council are less likely to put up restrictions.

But more importantly, by offering alternatives in not so visited locations but knowing what is there, ie good walks views etc can encourage us to see areas that we might have missed because the tourist info doesn't include the finer things in life, just those that are paid for by the bigger venues.

So go and look local and share with us.

I appreciate there are a number of members who do this already, but share what you think is the best around where you live.

An excellent idea - let's spread the load and offer more choices.

It can only be a good thing.

If everyone on here contributed, say, three spots near them - imagine how many more places we'd have to choose from :)

There a loads round here in Teesdale and the North Yorkshire Dales. A lot of them I have to say are already mapped on the POI. I often have it on when driving about and it often pings at me. Ill keep my eyes open for any new ones though.

that's an excellent idea petee
of course i live in france and you stop wherever you want anyway , so I can't be of help

if you want to stay on aires go to

CAMPINGCAR-INFOS

and download the whole of europe onto your laptop for €8 or look on line for nothing ; regretfully the number they could find in the uk is negligable 86 compared to over 6,000 in france , mostly free ; no wonder they will top 3 million hits this year ; the new version will be out early july if you are interested

yeah, great idea but I dont think anyone would want to come to wildcamp in sheffield, lol, but i always keep my eyes open in surrounding areas, Im just 15 mins from the peak district but spots are few and far between. I have already put a couple of locations up at rivelin Valley, I think Chris has picked them up and put them on his POI's

I quite like visiting Cities, I've lived in the country for over 40 years, it's nice to walk down a street and not have to say hello and pass the time of day with everyone you meet.

Southern Lake District

For anyone travelling past Newby Bridge, through Backbarrow, towards the Barrow-in-Furness/Ulverston/Furness Peninsula on the A590 - there is a more than adequate 'old road' layby on the off-side @ 54.14'.58.14"N 3.02'.00.14"W with a Pub/Restaurant (The Rusland Pool) at the start of the layby. 200 yds further west is another large layby on the near-side. Details of the Rusland Pool are available on the net.
