Long term sites for the winter

We've now been fulltiming for six months, thoroughly enjoyed it, and have toured Europe and the UK using a mix of aires, CL/CS, the odd commercial site and some wildcamping.

We now need to settle down for the winter and earn some money, if only to fund next years travels :D

We need a base for probably five months and could stay on the one site if we can strike the right deal in terms of location, service connections (EHU, water and waste) and of course price. Our preferred location would be around Leicester which unfortunately seems to have a dearth of sites :(

We would prefer a CL/CS type of site, if only on cost grounds and wondered what sort of discount would be achievable for a long term deal?

Even better would be a farm, looking for a bit of extra income, or someone with a bit of under utilised space adjoining their property - is this a realistic option?

There must be others who have gone through this process and found the best way of doing it??

The max stay on any CL/CS is 28 days. You could always rotate between a couple of sites.

Commercial site licences often have a closed period so even those may not be available all winter.

The max stay anywhere that is not a CL/CS or Licenced site is again 28 days but that is in a year not just in a stay.

We have known people do the rotation method.

Hi Spartacus, try this one, very basic, think you can do a deal for long term.
( proctors pleasure park barrow-on-soar nr loughborough leicestershire
le12 8qf) tel. 01509 412434.
good luck BAZ.

Thanks for your replies, allanb Scarborough too far out for us, although would make a nice winter base :)

bmb1uk, yes I know of Proctors, it's a bit rough and also overcrowded though for our liking :(

John Thompson, the 28 day rule would be no problem to work around, we could always slip off somewhere for the night, some sites I've been on turn a blind eye to these things anyway ;)

These are all the reasons we're trying to find something a little different, a farm or landowner with a small bit of space that can earn them some income. It's proving easier said than done though :(

It seems we're a bit short on friends with land to spare :D

Hi Middle hills camping site at Grangemill Derbyshire has a few caravans etc left on site, some are occupied at the weekend only, but pretty sure it wouldn't matter that they were used more than this. The owners are very friendly and approachable. The site is close to Matlock and Bakewell and we think it is our favourite site locally. interested to know how you fare. John.

Thanks for your reply hobenhobo, it sounds like a good site but is too far north for us. Not that we dislike the cold you understand  just that for work reasons we need to be in Leicestershire.

Spent all day today touring round looking at sites, we can find some that may be suitable at £12 - £14 a night but that is way too expensive for us.

When you think all we need is electricity and fresh water, no toilets/showers/hair dryers/baby changing/shop/landscape garden/wardens etc. etc. yet are we forced in to going down this route when the whole idea was to escape it

We just want basic facilities on a tidy site for sensible money.

My son in law works on the roads and he often stays in a farmers field with a hook up into the barn or outbuildings. there must be a farm somewhere near leicester that would let you camp over.

Thanks nichodia, you've hit the nail on the head, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Not been able to find one though as yet, I have asked a few people with rural connections but so far drawn a blank. Beyond that I'm not sure how to go about finding one
