Hi all ,I take it you have all heard about the LEX ( London Emission Zone ) which comes in to action 03 01 12 , I’ve had a letter form the council as I travelled through the zone telling me I will need a filter fitted which I had a quote sent too me yesterday , it reads for one fortex filter for my camper Mercedes 410D will be £1590.00 plus fitting for £300.00 plus vat and will need testing every year, or pay £100 per day while in the zone. Let me have your feedback please .

heard people talking about it on other forums, a lot having to get rid of em. i know they have a simular thing in the big cities in germany, but i have a blue badge so doesnt apply.

could be useless info
if van is 2002 or younger and up to 3.5 ton It is LEZ compliance, I read somewhere (can not remember where) that MH owner down grade van to 3.5ton to avoid modification (thus compremise payload of course)

The worrying thing about this LEZ is if other authorities around the UK take it up, this could escalate into a scenario like the ban on free bags at supermarkets in Wales once the "anorak environmentalist geeks" cotton on to it. I feel sorry for anyone with a Motorhome who lives within the Zone, it's going to be either an expensive conversion or sell the vehicle.

I think the regulation is aimed mainly at commercial vehicles, no thought has been given to privately owned vehicles in the form of motorhomes, have any of our London members complained..??

On this website you can put in your reg. no. and check if your vehicle will be compliant in 2012:-

Low Emission Zone | Transport for London

I've checked mine and my Transit 2.5 TD will not comply.

What's the betting Boris Johnson doesn't get involved with common motorhome people...the toffee nosed twot.

Problem solved, the answer is on that London Transport website, quote: "It may prove cheaper to upgrade to a newer model which meets the standards, rather than retrofit an older vehicle", so, all I need to do is sell my van for £12K and buy a brand new one for £40K, phew! I thought it was all going to be so expensive.

borris is an idiot he supplied half of london with bikes that could be used for getting arround on half of london nicked them ,dident he think they would get nicked . red ken was bad enough he introduced the charges he tried to get everybody not to feed the birds ,the fool everybody feeds the birds its the done thing in london ,but now they have a fool that walked arround the riot torn areas with a brush . borris the brush well as daft as one.

Are these the diesel emissions that are less harmful than petrol emissions, which I seem to remember reading about a while back, making it a 'we hate diesel' tax?

Are you sure there is exemption for blue badge holders? I note Showmans vehicles are exempt though.

Cost of buying a Filter = £1500. Cost of fitting said Filter = £300. Cost of annual test of said Filter = £100. With VAT, Company Tax, and Income tax I guess 30% of those costs will go to Government in Tax......Stealth Tax?

This is not strictly true, they did consider omitting motorhomes in the original drafting, but later on they were included for some reason.

It's not a big deal unless you live in London. There's little point taking a vehicle in becasue of parking problems, slow traffic, and the congestion charge. I visit frequently and nearly always use public transport.

The LEZ reaches the M25 in several places so it's not just central London.

Yes I realise that. I often go down the A1 in a car, and see the signs. But even if taking a car I usually park and ride from a tube station like Cockfosters or Finchley Central. Otherwise I'd park in Stevenage and get a travel card. Off peak at £20 it's much quicker and I'd pay double that in deisel and parking, not to mention the time.

But I guess if you wanted to visit someone in Stanmore or Harrow etc on the outskirts the LEZ could potentially be very annoying.

i do think that they could come to an araingment that present owners of motor homes that reside in the lez zone can keep there vans they have .but if anybody else buys or moves into that area that the vans must be compliant . bit like grandfather rights ,i belive they brought in with the unlicenced cabs used in london, i know they were on about it when we lived down there . any body all ready driving an unlicenced cab was ok ,but any new ones had to be licenced . was that rule brought in .

Another Forum member put me onto this useful spot, 51.482072,0.077335 , there's a bus runs into Central London from by the Prince of Wales pub around the corner, I have a free bus pass, next year this spot will be well within the new LEZ.

Does this mean your vehicle will have to comply with the LEZ regs even if you're just using the M25 to by-pass London en route to somewhere else??

No, but you can't leave the m25 eastwards on to the m4 near Heathrow for example. There is lots of info. and an interactive map on the LEZ website.

For those who are about to buy a van or motorhome it might be a good idea to get something that complies with the LEZ regs. If your really not bothered then there should be quite a few motors coming up for sale in the London area soon:lol-061:

As a London resident the new LEZ regs. didn't worry me too much, as I had a 1989 Talbot Express (petrol). However, arthritis in my thumb and wrist meant I
needed to look for power steering, an easier gear change (not a 3ft stick!) and electric windows if I was to have pain-free driving. I also wanted something newer as spares for my 'van were exremely difficult to source. This brought me up against the new regs and I then had to find something post 2002 as there seemed to be only older petrol vehicles available. I've now got a lovely 2003 motorhome, that is compliant, but had to spend much more than I had originally anticipated.
I believe that London residents get some sort of reduced rate in the Congestion Charge area, so don't see why the same can't apply in the LEZ. £200 every time you want to go away in your 'van (£100 in and £100 out) is ridiculous as mostly we are just taking the quickest route out of Central London ~ no-one in their right mind goes across town even if making for the M25 to go round adds some miles to the journey. I was in the fortunate state that I could afford to pay a bit more to get the means to easier driving, but really feel for those on limited means or who really want to stick with a cherished 'van.

The Eastern approach is pretty worrying. From the A12 if you pass under the M25 that will be £100.

Seems to me that the M25 has been the boundary of choice. I wonder how many meetings that took?

This is it..

There must be a shed load of MH's in the zone in the eastern approach. OK some of the areas are wealthy but many more are just run of the mill residential areas. This is going to really whack some MH owners.

Seems the reason for the TAX is going to hit some very innocent people.
