London and the LEZ

Hi all

Having a bit of a nightmare if anyone can help. We want to see the jubilee concert in london next month but want to go in our 99 hymer which is not LEZ compliant. Wildcamping is probably a no no as we would be leaving the van unattended all day.

Can anyone reccomend our best course of action, probably a camp site outside the m25 north/north east side preferably.

Many Thanks

Wayne

I have stayed at C and CC - Details - Kelvedon Hatch Kelvedon Hatch before.

Nice site, good for Brentwood and trains into London/Stratford. I think they take non members for an additional fee.

Personally I would just urban-wild and leave the van all day somewhere in Brentwood and save myself £30. No probs.... but that's just me, hehehe :D

its a joke really its not just inner london its from m25 inwards :(

First time I've heard of someone visiting Ealing..... as being fortunate!!! The people I think who have been hardest done by were the owners of non compliant vehicles actually living within the LEZ, who found themselves with a virtually unsaleable vehicle and with no compensation and no time amnesty, ie no choice.

Thanks for the replies, I live in Flintshire,North Wales, updated my profile now. Best way of checking your MH is to put your reg in to the LEZ website and it will tell you if compliant or not. Bad news if you wanted to own an older MH and happened to live within the M25,another government knee jerk idea not thought through properly.

Any tips on any other particular sites outside the LEZ?

Cheers

Hertford has a CC&C site and it is easy to cycle to the station, it has the north station and east station, both easy links in to London and the tube.

There are a few places you could get away with staying over night if you wanted to wild. You can stay in the Old London Road lorry park over night but you would have to pay to park during the day. There are quite a few streets that I would have no issues with leaving the van during the day, but of course that does have a gamble to it. Hertford North has the bigger car park, but not sure what their policy is on taking two bays.

Time to get a new map...Ealing is inside the M25 but on the outside edges of the north and south circular roads of London.

GLC got abolished in 1986 (lost my job)

It's my understanding that you don't get a fine the first time you are recorded within the LEZ with a non-compliant vehicle - you just get a warning letter from Boris. You can then drive within the LEZ for 28 days from the date of issue of the warning letter and a Penalty Charge will not be incurred.

Yeah timing...I noticed too late that it had been answered already.

Yes I have an SP2 though not from the reliable manufacturer...mine comes from the land of dodgy electrics! :D

Yeah I know all about trying to bump-start the SP2 with a flat battery and how long your legs and lungs last trying to turn over the two pistons until you give up!

I am helping a friend put together a bike for the Golden Era Superbike series, sadly it is taking much longer than I ever anticipated. The only parts left for me to manufacture now are the carbon fairings. Everything else is done...carbon airbox, air runners, velocity stacks, oil catchtanks, various carbon brackets even the carbon rearsets...it has been a very hectic 6 months, see here.

996 SPS, nice bikes...I still own a new unregistered Foggy Replica and another sps Foggy Replica which I will also build into a track special with my carbon parts but only when this triple 8 racer is finished.

Good look to your son for Oulton, I am not sure exactly when we will be ready...hopefully for the Rockingham round.

I live in South West London, W14, near High Street Kensington, I bought a petrol Renault Trafic to get around the LEZ. Previous poster was correct, there are still black cabs puking out black smoke, which annoys me no end! All the buses have been cleared up thankfully...

any vehicle not registered with them is non compliant
you can try going in not registered , but expect a visit from the french baliff in due course
I registered my french plate vehicle a year ago , but it isn't pre 2002 , and is euro3
