London 2012

I have just been offered a "Games Maker" volunteer job at the London 2012 Olympics, working with the press team as photo team member.

Just need to find where to park up my MH for a week or so? (working at Excel)

(just a bit pleased with myself)

Congrats!

There's not much close for 24/7 round there. Depends how close you want to get. If walking in, you could buy a weeks parking in one of those empty building sites where they let out space for parking. I've seen £7 a day or £35 a week kind of thing.

If you want to go further out there may be street parking somewhere and come in on the DLR.

Whichever way you look at it, long term parking or campsite availability in London is rubbish.

There are official motorhome sites but they are about £30-£40 a night plus hook up :scared:

If you have a motorhome in excess of 3.5 tons you may be subject to the new LEZ regulations, which means you can't get close to central London without spending a fortune on fixing an exhaust filter.

Congratulations.

There are a few CL's and CS's I used when working at Tilbury. They were full most of the time with construction workers for the Olympic jobs. The only snag is that none of them were close to railway or underground stations and a bus would be the first step to travelling to work.

Personally I intend to find somewhere with no TV reception for the Olympic period. If I have enough DVD's, then I will be content.

I'm likewise not going to watch much of the Olympics.

It was fun in the 70's and 80's when you had Coe/Ovett/Wells and the athletics had a more of an amateur feel. Now it's all about commercialism, and lets face it athletics is largely boring to watch unless you are really into the nuances.

I might watch some of the volleyball though. That is exciting, but they will screen 12 hours of track and field for every hour of volleyball.

wouldnt those who want your free labour know of anywhere? i mean your working for nowt, so shouldnt have to fork out yourself. just look how many millions they are making for themselves, yet still want thousands of people of offer time for free etc, not even covering the basics.

like others, i wont be watching it, and esp never ever the football GB.

Well; lucky for me Ive had the letter yesterday telling me my van wont be allowed into the LEZ!... so that and the fact that I dont want to even get anywhere near the cess pit (London village) means I wont be watching or taking any part in any of it! woohooo....
But on a positive note im sure I have read that there are temp sites being set up by CC and the Camping and caravan club for the Olympics.... I guess check their web sites?
Good luck and hope you make some money selling your pictures...

Remember you are issued with a Oyster card, (free travel) so you could work out a direct route from the Excel, and park up a fair distance, from the center of London.
I will be traveling from the end of the Northern Line.
