Check out reports in the Gazette about whitby this weekend. Essentially packed solid then left with mountains of rubbish. A photo shows the swing bridge at a standstill,
I parked up at a beach carpark in Christchurch this morning for a tacho break, middle aged guy beside me was at the back of his car getting changed, then drove off. I noticed after he left that he had kindly donated three empty lager cans to the carpark, the bit that really annoys me is that he was parked right beside a litter bin and couldn't even be arsed walking the length of his car to bin them. People his age should really know better.

Watched a family mum dad two kids pull into Luss car park eat there McDonald’s and start to toss it out the window so while they were still parked there I went over and started picking it up without saying anything but giving them the eye just to see if it would embarrass them in front of there kids. Felt like following them home and sticking it through there letterbox![]()
I spent most of last summer on Flamborough head. I couldnt believe the amount of litter just strewn about the place by day trippers, especially on a weekend. Twice on a Sunday morning I witnessed two teams of volunteers who oddly were mainly Polish picking it all up. What was even more worrying is a lot of it is plastics that end up in the sea which is a real threat to the environment, eco system and wild life.
People with such disregard for the environment just dont deserve to visit such beautiful places. I would like to see severe fines and naming and shaming for such behaviour but its almost impossible to police. Only by it becoming as mortal a sin as say Drink driving is considered now and by other people who see such behaviour confronting these louts might behaviour change but judging by the kind of people who do this sort of thing I can understand why many of us might be reluctant to confront them.
Is it a Uk thing because Ive not witnessed it in mainland Europe?
One of our favourite overnight spots had no overnight parking signs put up about a year ago. We have often cleared rubbish left by people dumping their fast food wrappers there and I’m sure that others staying overnight have done likewise. Sure enough, I’d never seen so much litter strewn about there as when the signs were up.
After a few months they disappeared and since then when I’ve visited there have only been small amounts of litter. Why the signs went up I do not know, nor why or how they came down, but certainly the litter level rose markedly when they were in place.
If the signs were torn down, then maybe a height barrier will appear one day, and with it I would imagine increased levels of unremoved litter.
Strange that signs should be put up stopping the harmless activity of overnight parking, with a result of an increase in litter levels yet nothing is done about those making the mess. If height barriers do go up those making the mess will be totally unaffected.
