Our last island in our recent trip was Lismore.
We headed to the ferry carpark at Port Appin at eight in the morning to find it was full of islanders cars, you can see the car park in the first photo. So we had to drive back into the village and park about 600 yards away. This seems to be an issue with these ferry carparks. Due to the local geology with a steep hill near the coast there was no way they could increase the size of the car park The crossing took about ten minutes and was ran by Argyle and Bute council. You can also get a longer crossing from Oban, this one takes cars and is run by CalMac.
To be honest the island did not have much to offer. There’s a road that runs for eight miles along the ten mile Long Island we walked along about half way to a nice cafe, then on the way back we walked of the road to Port Ramsay. We also visited the small museum next to the cafe. Note the manikin with his head turned round fully.

Not been on Lismore but it’s on the list. A friend of ours farms 60acres on the island.
It’s a strange Island in some ways. Their cafe which is excellent is in the middle of the island on its own. The only shop is about half a mile from the cafe again on its own. You are more or less forced to walk along the main road, footpaths were a rare sight. But the folk there are really friendly. As I said if you are going particularly in the busier months get there early because trying to park your van may be difficult. We headed back out of the car park and parked on a lay-bye about 600 yards from the car park.

Went to Port Appin in the motorhome a few years back (didn’t cross to Lismore). It was early March so no issues with parking. Had a fantastic meal in the hotel just by the ferry landing, and had good banter with the ferry crew who clearly have their lunch there every day!
