The Royalty, atop the Chevin , at Otley.

Looks to have changed hands again.

Superb views over a Leeds /Bradford airport and the Pennines.
Used to be Mh friendly.
Went in and ordered drinks and lunch.

On ordering the drinks,I asked the question, " How many pints should I drink now and tonight, if we can overnight on your car park ? "

Young Hipster owner refused to play along. So i Changed my pint order to a glass of tap water instead.

Ate up and bid him a firm goodbye.

Now overnighting on the Surprise View car park 200 yards NW. Level, roomy and open 24 hours.
Is this a POI ?
It should be.

Got to say it does seem an odd approach .
What did the 'young hipster' actually say ?

Thanks for the information.

The pub has never been in the POIs.

The car park is indeed in the POIs :D

He looked uncomfortable and told us it was not policy.. We were parked unobtrusively, where we had parked under the previous ownership, who used to offer a free hookup and tap.
We were wearing our best clobber and were taking Jenny's widowed sister in law out.
I didn't argue , that would have forced us to leave and jenny needed to eat.

It advertises that it's an independent pub. If it had been part of a group like Marstons, for example, I'd never have asked.
The food was OK, but slow in arriving. Jenny was.nibbling her emergency supply of nuts.
Our guest asked if they did smaller portions, " No ", was the reply.
Jenny, being diabetic, asked what starch would come with the salad.." None , but you can have a bowl of chips".
£2.50 extra.. Didn't impress her.

3 " no"s before the drinks eventually arrived , ensured that I didn't leave my usual generous tip !
We won't trouble them again.

The view from the top of the Chevin, this evening, was exquisite. The cops regularly drive through this car park and didn't give us a second look.

I had a similar experience on opening weekend of the Weatherspoons in Buxton (nods not motorhome parking) never been in there again and that must be 15 years back, they didn't seem to go bust though :)

I wouldn't worry....
Plenty of nicer places on the outskirts of Buxton..

Hi Neil, Great to finally meet you, spooners in Buxton do a great fish & chip Friday and Thursday curry much better than the Glossop one

In fairness when the Glossop one had fish and chips etc on offer for less than £2....
AND the Mrs was driving so I could punish my liver at Spoons prices...
It was a bargain ;-)

Ashton-under-Lyne (stab City) spoons is full of 'characters' of you fancy a laugh lol.

I do go in other weatherspoons if we are wanting food but was the principal with the local one, little sh*te of an assistant manager tried to make out we were wrong to complain after we had waited over two hours for food haha

I can nip home anyway as only 3 miles from Buxton but plenty of places to ea or stop around here, I tend not to notice so much as I see it every day although I do drive a big loop round as the views are much better and no queuing:)

Oops somebody must have opened the wrong tin

Or colour blind and pinged the wrong food at the wrong time !

Channa

Yes unfortunately most of these places (not only wetherspoons) basically don't cook . Yes they'll deep fry , grill etc but dishes like shepherds pie etc are shipped in . Mash comes in pellets and is reconstituted .
Makes for consistent (i.e. distinctly average) food

I'm licking my lips in the Sale, Cheshire, ' Spoons.

Superb 8oz surlion steak, Jacket and trimmings, good simple bangers and mash, 2 pints of spot-on Spitfire, the odd tomato juice for The Child Bride.
Great, cheerful service and a gentle hubub in the background. Average age of fellow diners... 60+
Change from £20.

Who needs Gormet food, while waiting for the van MOT ?
