Leisure batter in the western isles?

We're currently wild-camping on South Uist after 3 nights on Barra. Unfortunately our lesuire battery has given up the ghost so does anyone know if a replacement is possible anywhere in the outer islands or perhaps in Ullapool?

Fortunately we bought a Honda generator for the trip so we're getting by, however the battery being knackered is an annoyance as we don't run the generator overnight.

The weather was quite wild in Barra the first couple of nights but much better today.

Leisure Battery

Hi I would try a boatyard they sell them for the leisurs boats,
you may have to wait till you go to Lewis or Harris if stuck I would use a cheap car battery to put me on Put a call out for Guernsey Donkey he lives out there.

Hi, there's a garage on the outskirts of Lochboisdale, McKays I think its called. We stopped there for diesel and he seems to repair commercials as well. May get you going with a 12v truck battery. I think leisure batteries are like skimmed milk, they don't exist on the islands, my wife was well miffed!! :D :D

Cheers. I was thinking about using a car battery, hadn't thought of boatyards though - will check that out when we head over the Harris & Lewis in a couple of days.

There was a little motor spares place in Castlebay on Barra - haven't seen anything similar on South Uist so far, but will look on Benbecula later today. We're at the Shellbay campsite for the next couple of nights anyway, but still have a lot more wild camping planned on the trip.

A marine battery is far better than the normal Leisure battery so you should be in luck with the boatyards

My experience is that they are the same, but with a different label and a higher price for the 'marine' version ...

Nevertheless it may be the best option in that area!

Hi Niblue,

Have you tried asking the site owner? he/she may know where the nearest battery supplier is.

Hi Niblue

Just back from a 9 week tour of the UK - do you still need help or are you now back home.

Hi John, sorry to change subject, how did your trip go, and was information useful.....Bob

Update: We're in Stornaway now and managed to get a leisure battery at the Autoparts shop here. They even had a range of capacities available.

Got two more days on Lewis before heading back to Ullapool and then another week or so up in the north west highlands.
