Left behind

Following my misdemeanor at the weekend namely leaving my step behind at a campsite at Silloth it got me thinking anyone else left anything behind while camping. After all they reckon there are umpteen false limbs, bowler hats and dubious items left on London underground trains each year,so spill the beans don't be shy.Andy.

Not me thank god, but a large family using two cars to go and view Xmas lights left a child behind. Not missed until the following morning. That would be about the worst that I can think of.

last spring we took my kids backpacking round sicily and the aeolian islands (only way we could afford to see volcanoes!) and at each camp site we left something behind as the kids finally realised they had brought far too much stuff to comfortably carry!
things left or lost included
1 double airbed, punctured
1 air bed foot pump
2 pairs of hiking boots with the soles melted off by sulpher
5 pairs of sunglasses (two on top of etna)
2 ski jackets
a few bottles of beer (not the kids)
sulpher stained clothes
books
now when we go camping they pack a lot less!

Had to leave two camping chairs behind in a dustbin at Borthwick castle. After sitting out under the stars late at night we decided to just tuck the chairs under the van to save taking them back inside and waking up the young un. Next morning it was raining so we set off without going back outside. Obviously the chairs were not designed to be ran over by a van.:)

When we were still tenting we had to leave behind the Porta Loo as the pump broke on it. (We emptied it first then put it in a skip when it was dark)

Almost left behind EHU cable at a site in Luxembourg a couple of years ago, when it was lashing down outside, only to hear a sort of "wooshing" sound as the plug passed us, then came back to smack me. Luckily no damage done.

Happy Camping:eek:

Forgot to pick up a carrier bag that was put aside while packing vehicle at a place we stayed in New Zealand. It only had a shirt and a T-shirt in it so shrugged and thought that was the end of that. 3 weeks later got an email from the owner of the place we'd stayed, saying she'd send it ahead if we gave her an address! Bless her - the bag caught up with us on South Island!:D

That's hospitality for you!:)

Not strictly left on site but I was onsite at the time.
Went walking over Kinder in the peaks and left my Binoculars as I climbed over a wall. Returned 3 weeks later and some kind soul had hung them from a fence post. So reunited we are to this day, just a little battered from 3 weeks up there:eek:

Sounds like quite a few of us have similar tales to tell, after i posted the thread i was thinking about our family camping holidays in Kinross Scotland, late Mam and Dad used to take us to the same campsite every year for 2 weeks. We had a large family i am one of 10:eek:Dad owned a Morris Traveller the ones with the wood panels down the side all of crammed in,roof rack on piled high, never get away with it now. There was a terrible thunder storm all the way from Lockerbie to Kinross and arrived at campsite as it was getting dark, only to find Dad had forgotten to put the tent on the roof rack, had to travel all the way back and set again the next day.Don't think Mam and Dad spoke for days memorable holiday for the wrong reason:eek:so i have come to the conclusion that it must be hereditary,Andy.

Put my mobile phone in the wrong bag down south a few years ago and it ended up in the skip. Didnt realize until we were 200 miles away. Needless to say we didnt go back:eek:
