Does anyone know a decent overnight stop off en route or near to the ferry with bit of beauty thrown in. Leeds up the A1 over to cairnryan from Scotch corner via carlisle, Gretna, Newton Stewart etc.

We will be taking the very early morning ferry, so rather than drive up through the night, which my wife hates, we thought to set off early, drive to somewhere nice and scenic for a walk about and shop or lookie lookie afternoon and stop for the afternoon and night then get going early for the ferry at 7am.

Ive stopped along that way before but it was years ago and all I remember was it rained all day, lol..

Along the A75 there are quite a few places to stop some are in the poi' one of them which is about 10 miles or so off cairnryan has some great views over the water, there is also a couple in cairnryan on the road to the ferry, and depending which ferry you catch they have a car park that you can stay in

I never though about that, we could go up early and stay in the car park for a walk about and a kip if they let us. Thanks

Do check with the ferry company. I seem to remember we could have stayed there but it was a pay and display. We stayed a few mins up the road by a dis-used warehouse (on POIs) with a few other vans. Could dog walk there.
