Leeds/Holbeck - is Water Lane area still a bit dodgy after dark?

Going up to Leeds at the weekend to meet up with friends from when I lived up there, used to park up for the night in the Whitehall Road car park but apparently that's not allowed any more, and no POIs near that side of town that I can see. Was looking at Google Maps and it looks like there's plenty of street parking just south of Water Lane - but I think that used to be a bit of a red light area, and wouldn't want anyone mistaking my van for a working girl's passion wagon (more for their sake than mine, I'm not the prettiest sight when I've been woken up in the middle of the night). Any locals know if it's still got that reputation, or am I likely to get an undisturbed night's sleep?
