LED Trailer board lights

My conventional boat trailer board lights last about a year and then some stop working even though the bulbs are fine. Im thinking of swapping to LED but understand they are not always compatible with modern van electrics. We have a 2016 Fiat Ducato based van, can anyone advise if an LED trailer lighting board will work? TIA
 
Don't know for sure if it will work, but the only thing that springs to mind is the indicator repeater warning light, or buzzer warning might not work.
 
I've had my share of trailer board problems over the years.

Fault finding is just a case of being systematic and only need a multimeter set to vdc or ohms

1) Physicality check the trailer cable for damage (couple of ears ago I wore the sheaths of four wires when the cable dragged).
2) Using meter on vdc, check that your have power at the appropriate pins on the vehicle socket. (use socket earth)
3) Take cover off trailer plug and inspect all connections
4) Remove covers on light fitting and remove bulbs. Put Plug in socket and check power at light fitting (use light fitting earth)
5) Remove plug from socket. Using meter on ohms test continuity of each wire.
 
Its normly the pin connectors requiring a rub with emery, point to rememeber if buying t/boards, they must have a fog lamp, many do not are could get you points.

And require the correct shaped reflectors.... Triangular on a trailer
Round if used on a vehicle

(though your average copper will be likely just happy you took more trouble than a hastily scrawled reg number on a piece of wet cardboard without ANY lighting.)
 
About 2/3 years back the plod went on a campaign pulling trailers and caravans here for just about everything they could think of, mind you some of the things i have seen would be better of in the dump.

Very sensible approach, thank you, part of the problem seems to be the very cheap socket fitting for the bulbs and the very thin earth wire, Im hoping to buy a good quality board to save these systematic checks every year
