 HI GUYS N GALLS,I GOT A PROB,,I HAVE A AUTO TRAIL, I WOULD LIKE TO ADD A THIRD LESURE BATT BUT CANT FIND A WIRE DIAGRAM OR PICTURE ANY WHERE ON THE WWW HAS ANY ONE GOT ONE PLEASE THANKS NIGEL :confused:

Just connect it in parallel with the existing batteries using heavy duty leads, at least 150 Amp.

But if you are adding another battery it may hold more charge and be in much better condition than the exisiting ones. Then it will discharge into the weaker ones, but they won't be able to hold it long term, so you'll lose some extra capacity. You would be better off replacing all of the batteries at the same time so they are all equally rated.

Also, you need to check if your charger and alternator are high enough rated to cope with another battery.

If you want more help just post here. The reason is that other people may also benefit and be able to contribute, but if we email, only us two can see it and it will be lost to the community :)

OK, you need to find your leisure/aux battery, the one that is not used to start the van. It is usually in the back under a seat in it's own battery locker. Connect your new battery to that using heavy duty battery cables that you can buy in Halfords. The way you connect it is negative terminal to negative terminal and positive to postive the same way you would connect a battery when you jump start a car. You must use heavy duty leads as the charging current from the alternator can be 100 amps plus.

Ideally your new battery should be in a sealed box which is vented to the outside with a small pipe to disperse the hydrogen gas which is given off during charging. Hydrogen is explosive and could be ignited by a spark. It probably wont happen and will disperse, but best be on the safe side.

Ideally you need to check the charging rating of your alternator and your 240V charger as they may be inadequate to charge three batterie, or at least charge them as quick as they should.

I have 3 batteries in my van and the set up as above seems to work fine

If you've got what I think you have then be very, very careful. The charging for these batteries is far from simple and risky without a proper charger.

Normally spelling and grammar doesn't bother me on forums, so long as the message gets through, but there's no such thing as "dixoxin cadmeum". Please could you copy down the model and type details from the battery and post it here so I can check it out?

thanks,

you wont of heard of them because the were all fitted by a airbus electrican at toulouse factory in france,,even people in the battery buisness have not herd of them they are kind of special to planes,, i wont go into details, but they have been inspected by a very special aircraft fitter/maintainance eng in uk he works on queens flight copters,, also the top man at s/e/district VOSA,the chargers work fine,, Hey mildred you fitted any latley ??? you need to look in the boeing tec manual 1762,81,para 56 appendix 4094 also airbus opp manual for the 340/319/640 aircraft, but unless you work for them you cant,, not for the public on the nett only in the maint book OK

It's usually Cadmium Oxide, Nickel Cadmium, or Manganese Dioxide. I haven't heard of the compound Niggle mentioned either :)

Well, it's people in the "battery business" who make them ..... and battery specialists who supply them. AeroSupplies Inc. for example who tell me that the A340 takes their 4059 emergency battery.

Now - as I tried to hint earlier, :) these batteries are tricky -

20 semi-open nickel-cadmium VHP 370KA-3 cells, very reliable if stored, charged and used properly.

But then your mate who seems to be able to acquire them is probably the best to advise you on how to install them, trouble shoot them and maintain them. I know lots about batteries, and just enough not to use these in any other configuration than detailed by the manufacturer.

Lovely boxes they go in - it's titanium.

Edit:

Actually, if you include Torrents as "on the net" then you can download them!
