leaking fresh water tank tap...

Hi everyone, a job I've been putting off is to try and fix a slow but steady drip from the tap on the fresh water tank underneath our Peugot boxer autosleeper harmony vehicle.

Had the van a year and it had and still has some adhesive of some sort stuck around the tap, but lately it seems to be leaking more. Not a serious problem as water is plentiful but needs fixed some time.

Any favourite kinds of adhesive that could be recommended ?

thanks

Tim

What is leaking, the tap, the pipe, or the tank?

I had a similar problem after a pheasant head butted the tap. Part of it had cracked - I dropped the tank out, removed the tap and glued a sleeve inside to seal it. Simple. Except I was 200 miles from home at the time...

If it is leaking around the thread, removing all the gunk and using a few turns of teflon tape will work.

Leaking through the tap itself? Maybe not much can be done unless the tap can be disassembled.

Split in the tank itself? Very few sealants stick to many tank materials so it depends on where the leak is, shape of split etc.

Some tank materials can be hot air welded, or even an old soldering iron used to melt the material along the crack and "smear" it over the crack.

Usually need to start by removing all previously-applied stuff and scraping the surface clean so you can see exactly what the problem is.

Then ask the question again.

Yes, I need to scrape off the existing gunk and see what is actually the problem, then maybe ask another question.

thanks
