Hi all,
just wanted to share what we got up to last week during the half term holidays.
Having made plans with friends to visit the Heriford area we planned to continue to Wales, but when the weather took a turn on the sunday and they were forcasting gales we packed up came home to sit the weather out.
Absolutely fed up by wednesday we repacked our toothbrushes in to the van and set off a bit closer to home to Ironbridge in Telford. We spent the first night in the yha at Coalport which was right in the heart of the heritage area and right next to the river.
After 5pm when the coalport china museum closes and all the staff have gone this would be a perfect place to wild its so peacefull no carparking fees, no barriers, lovely walks along the canal to the local pub (about a 7 minute walk).
Opposite the pub is the tar tunnel which is open to public (small charge £2) and the bitumen runs (slowly) down the walls and there are pools of tar down there. Next to this is the Hay inclined plane this is a victorian track that goes up the hill and transfered the tar and china, bricks and tiles down the hillside to the river, this is really overgrown and fenced off, due to being redeveloped over the next few years, but if your passing go and see it now in its natural state before the crowds beat you to it. We found a hole in the fence about half way up and walked the rest of the way up the track, amazing!
Needless to say we stayed in the area and camped at Much Wenlock and walked up the Wrekin which is not for the faint hearted. Had fabulous weather after that and thoroughly enjoyed this area.
