Large Motorhome Rescue - Help please

I am searching for a recovery insurance for my 25ft. long motorhome. It is on a Mercedes 316 but has a really long back overhang, and being a low profile it is lower to the ground than a lot.

I really don't know how anyone would be able to get it onto the back of a trailer without mashing up either the front or back bumber. Unless they have really long ramps that are not too steep.

Of course if it could be towed then no problem.

Anyone any ideas.

Hi Rabbit9,
welcome to the site.
Some recovery trucks these days have a bed that lowers at the rear end, by hydraulics, so it acts as a shallow ramp, so you should have no problems with the back end. Just need to make the recovery people aware of this when calling them out.

Happy Camping:)

As above. Our previous M/H was on a stretched LT 35 [Sprinter style] Chassis with nearly 6 foot rear overhang.
Used a recovery service once [bad fuel] and had no probs at all ..

Hi we have a Kontiki, 24 feet. We use Brittania who know exactly what we have and took all the details, they were not phased at all.

Hi,
Once saw a pair of leveling ramps used to raise back end of camper whilst it was winched on to flat bed platform then the whole lot was lifted onto back of wagon by hydralics. Should have seen front end of recovery wagon as the full weight was put on the back wheels a good foot in the air. Scary but moral of story is if the recovery people accept responsibility then no probs.

As you can see it was a tight fit, but Enfield also sorted out the problem with the fuel after letting us have a hookup overnight in their Yard
Great Company :)

Hi and welcome

We, in common with many others, use Safeguard who specialise in motorhomes and seem unphased by any requests. Our van is 7 metres long and we are covered 12 months a year for recovery from anywhere in the EU. Happy travels.

I think the rules on rear overhang changed and many trucks are longer after the back wheels these days. You shouldn't have any bother. I'm with equity redstar through Adrian Flux.

Hi there,

Thanks. We used Adrian Flux for one year, but they told us that they do not count any NCB (which we had over 20yrs.-although only 9 count with most companies). So when you leave them & go to another company you have to start earning your NCB again.

Unless you do like we did and keep the previous renewal form from the other ins. company before you go to Adrian Flux, just stay with the for a year, then ask them for proof that you have had no accidents in ther year you have been with them. Then the other company you are going to consider that you have proof of no accidents and allow you the full NCB again.

But we warned Adrian Flux ststaed that they would not give assurances of no claims being made over 1 yr. They said that is why they can give cheap insurance.

Thanks. We used to be insured with Comfort but are now insured with co-op. Will have to wait & see if their breakdown co. will do for us, as apparently they have just changed it.

Hi rabbit I use Insurance choice, £149.00 for a large motorhome, for the year.Used them in july when the driveshaft went. brought back on a flatbed from Bristol to lancashire. Cant fault them from satart to finish. they do have a 14 days grace period though.:):):)
PS i have a swift Kontiki, 23Ft long.
