Lake Garda route

Hi all

I am travelling to lake Garda from Zeebrugge in 5 days (hurray).
Can’t decide on which route to take, France via Metz entering Switzerland at Basle or take the Germany route down through Germany into Austria and on to Garda .
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks Tim

Depends how much time you want to take getting there.
I'd go via Metz, but it's a fav town spot of mine, aire and campsite ten minutes walk to centre. Then through Black Forrest, then can choose between Switzerland, or Lake Constance and into Austria. Lake Contance is nice enough, but will be busy. Lots of good routes to choose from.

I have allowed 4 days to travel down to Garda so can fit in some nice places to stop off at .

Up through Luxemburg (cheap fuel), Strasbourg (stay at Kehl over the river). Then either through Switzerland or round lake Constance and Austria, both nice routes. If we go via Lake Constance we stop over at Gasthaus Sternen in Hard, it's free if you have a drink or meal, we always have a meal (and drinks). Peshciera Del Garda is handy for the train to Milan and Venice.

Your route looks good. Thank you for taking the time to write.
I have had mixed reviews for lake Garda so going with a open mind .

I've never used any of the northern ports for many years but have traveled to Garda from Roscoff and usually enter Italy at Mont Cenis (great overnite there Go boxes avoided as well) and Garda easily reached from there next day I'd suggest using tolls in Italy no where near as expensive as France and terrible roads without. Enjoyed Garda and area but expect it'll be busy this time of year
