La Rochelle here we come!:)

Well I’ve finally got some holiday time booked and I’m off down to the La Rochelle area for a couple of weeks starting on Sunday.

We will be crossing over to Calais and may-be working our way down the coast, or possibly cutting across inland and down. As it my first time down in that area I was wondering if anyone has some good tips on places to call in and see on the way down, as well as cheap places to stay and see in the La Rochelle area.

All suggestions would be most welcome!!

Thanks Andy

Buy a Michelin Map and follow any of the roads that have a "green scenic" route along them.

La Rochelle - one of my very favourite stopovers.

Three small sites near the town but I always stay on the Aire at the back of the town park. Very large car park that does not have limited spaces and only minutes to the centre or 15 minutes to the twin towers.

Enjoy your break

Hi Andy, one of the best places you could visit on the way down is Honfluer. there is a big Aire there 7 Euros a night.:D

When you get to La Rochelle, you can park at the Maritine Musee (Museum), right at one end of the port, its the only car park thats free in La Rochelle, and they allow overnight parking.;)

Enjoy your trip, we like that coast, there are plenty of Aires, so get the :

Vicarious Books Motorhome, Caravan & Camping Book Specialist, aires guides and campsite guides from Europe ACSI, France Passion, All The Aires, Camperstop Europe, Go Motorhoming

Bob. :D

You can also park overnight at the bus terminus car park I think it was 5Euro,good if you're late getting there

Hi, what about Mont-Saint-Michel,:D if you have not been, its worth going but it gets very busy at times. And you can stay overnight. ;)

I could add St Malo and Dinan, well worth a visit...............have a good one. Bob.

La Rochelle

Hi we were in that area in July. We stayed a little further south at Chataillon at free aire and cycled a coastal path to la Rochelle about 10 k-- lovely and flat and almost traffic free !!! Brilliant. Enjoy your time there whatever you decide.:)

Hi Hymerman, There is a decent municipal site in the north of La Rochelle, quite reasonable to. Its handy for walkin or bikin to the harbour area. There are signs on the approaches to the town centre, watch out for those carbolicky nurses!....Bob

Hi Folks

Thanks everyone for your idea's, I'm going to have a look at these on the way down. I think we'll pop into Honfluer and give that a try first and I like the sound of Chataillon as well. I've just got hold of a copy of the Aires guide that Jane & Bob suggested so that's going to help.... I may also try Rogers sugestion of the Michelin Map and try some of the "green scenic" routes.

There so much to see and so little holiday............... But boy am I going to make the must of it!

Thanks again - Andy:)

Don't forget to visit Cognac, very pretty and don't forget the local delicious drink of Pineau de charente.

Now that sounds like a plan!! That has got to be worth a little more investigation.......;)

Thanks for that!

Loads of Cognac houses to visit, Hennessy and Remy Martin were my favourites. Pineau de charente is cognac and grape juice - available everywhere and very palatable, like sherry but not as sickly.
The miles of empty beaces are excellent.
I rememebr a fantastic zoo well worth a visit
ZOO de la Palmyre
Enjoy.
