One way of "managing" the problem of popular over night stops....

Stick water and hook ups and welcome motorhomers for £10 per night...

Great idea... facilities IF folks want them and funds into the local community whilst managing numbers.

We stayed there a few years back ( no charge then ) and had a very peaceful quiet night being the only one there

A couple of locals came over for a nosey, very friendly and chatty.

The trouble is several will use it and leave early without paying :mad2:

Always a problem where a person's honesty is relied upon. On the Isle of Harris we have the local Trust providing dedicated parking facilities for which you pay via Paypal on return: I often wonder what percentage of people "forget." Some years back we camped at the Forestry Commission's Glen Clova (former) site which had a ticket-machine amongst the trees. So perhaps for those communities such as that at Kinlochbervie this could be a solution, and one that would soon pay for itself. For others, when will they realise that there is money to be made, and that (most) motorhomers are only too willing to pay for some basic facilities?

i agree with mistericeman, this is a good way to inject money back into the community. There will always be people who decide not to pay but to decide not to do this because of the behaviour of a few is not a good reason. Hopefully the guilt will weigh heavily on their hearts but for those of us who do pay the community will benefit whilst at the same time we will sleep soundly knowing we won't have to worry about getting moved on.

To overnight in a place like that we would happily pay £10 per night.

Let's hope more communities follow their example and realise that motorhomers should be welcomed not shunned.

With the amount of motorhome visitors to Scotland in recent years, particularly european visitors, it seems that Scottish towns and villages are waking up to the potential income to be gained from welcoming them into their communities.

We were on the Isle of Skye in august and I've never seen so many foreign registered motorhomes in one area. In fact, there is talk on the island of upgrading their campsites and infrastructure to cope with the volume of visitors.

No chance of England following suit though. they just stick their heads up their a****s and want it all to go away, just keep putting up the no overnight parking signs!! :mad1: :mad1: :mad1:

Also....

overnight camping permitted at Stoer head lighthouse (well car park just below)

Notice on entrance welcoming overnight camping in exchange for a £5 donation to the crofters association that own and manage the headland...

no hook up and compost toilet is only open during main season.

Agreed . If you are wandering about this area there is a good chance you have stopped for nothing for several nights elsewhere . Dilutes the £10 charge somewhat

I think , perhaps , we all do ?
Its always great to get parked up somewhere stunning for nothing . Even a miserable [tighter than a gnats chuff] git like me doesn't mind the odd tenner

Looks nice but here £5 for all above, they could fit a camera and just send bill to ofenders who skip paying up.
