I recently had a problem with the key Fob for my van, it would not operate the alarm or unlock the doors , my wifes' fob worked OK, so it is batteries I thought, not so as I discovered after several changes of battery, i tried the gubbins when the fob was open by pressing the micro switches at the printed circuit board in the fob and all was working, so what was wrong, well checking the outer cover of the fob I noticed the rubber housing in the fob was slightly perished and the tiny pip that presses on the micro switch when the fob is assembled and used was also partly worn away/ perished, so what to do, well I super glued a small piece of insulation tape to the inner side of the fob repairing the perished part and then super glued a tiny pip [ an eye used in craft making for teddy bears hee hee ] in place in place of the missing original missing pip, and hey presto my fob is brand new hee hee , a new fob would have cost close to £100 as it would have needed to be made compatible / programmed with my alarm /immobiliser system, so a saving there, I do love to solve these problems as they arise.

Nice, I’ll remember that. Just in case. Thanks.

I like the lateral thinking, something our generation are good at, make do and mend.

I have the same problem. What van have you?

I have a Peugeot, I open the fob & all I can see is the battery, can't see any micro-switches.

We were touring Anglesey when the fob for our Smart played up. We managed to get it back to the site and onto the trailer but there was nothing after that.
We took it to the main Smart dealer when we got home still on the trailer. They had to order the keyfobs from Smart and then program them.

We now had two fobs now. My wife uses the Smart most and her fob started playing up again and wouldn't open the door or reset the electronics. I thought battery but that did nothing. We started using the other fob.
Last week she bent the working fob so now we have a key that will manually open the door, but not operate the electronics and a one that would probably snap it we tried to use it but works the electronics.

The battery is housed in the main circuitry of the fob, if you carefully lift the whole wodge of the circuitry it comes away as one piece [basically speaking you are opening the fob from the other side to which you have].My circuitry [has two micro switches integral, one arms the van and locks the doors, the other one sets the alarm for internal habitation, i.e .so one can move about in the van when you are locked in for the night or to allow a dog to be in the van or you leave the van un occupied when you go out basically turning off the internal sensors, my van is a Fiat but that makes no difference to the alarm system . I have a COBRA strike back alarm system.
