We had a multi agency vehicle check in the town this morning lasting about 4 house.
The results published on the police website are great. several cars impounded, drivers fined for various things. some illegals arested, and one bloke reported for having kerosene in his van tank instead of deisel.
I didn't know this was illegal?

Yep kerosene (parafin) is illegal due to the fact that it has no duty on it.

In my Mercedes handbook it advises the use of up to 50% kerosene in freezing conditions. However it has a provlso stating that the use of kerosene is 'not permitted in the UK'.i It advises flow improvers as an alternative or exceptionally up to 30% leaded or regular gasoline may be used.
I have presumed that winter diesel as sold at the pumps contained a % of kerosene?

You can get licence to use it from HMRC but you have to pay tax on it.

I used to run a Ford 8 van on TVO (Tractor Vaporising Oil) in the early 1960's, petrol was 4/6d a gallon and I was paying 2/3d for the TVO, a little hard to start in the Winter though. I don't think you can get TVO now and I'm not sure what they run vintage tractors on. Ho, and it was illegal to use it then too.

I just found this on Wikipedia: Tractor vaporising oil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
