Hello All

We sat and looked at the weather forecasts late last week and decieded to just ignore the damned weather and head off to the seaside in the van on Friday afternoon. we were'nt sure exactly where we were heading and stopped on the way in Welshpool and Newtown in mid-Wales. The sold and grim sleet nearly made us head back home, and with the temperature at about 2c we did consider it. Then like the typical pig-headed Brits we are we just decieded to carry on to Aberystwyth and get plenty of winter insulation down us, (Beer Wines or Spirits, by the way). As we approached the town the clouds parted and we found it was much warmer than inland. We wilded it on the Promenade at the far end where all the Hotels are and had a great weekend. Anyone else been away regardless of bad weather recently ?

We ignored the driving rain yesterday and went to the New Forest. The afternoon and this morning saw bright sunshine so it was well worth it. We stayed overnight in the Foresters Pub car park and had a meal and a bottle of wine there.
Back home now and its raining here and has been mostly since we left yesterday.
Good Call we think!

Was the pub one of those listed in the scheme where you can stay overnight in the pub car park if you eat or have a drink in trhe pub ? or are there a lot of pubs that do this?

Donk
We found it mentioned in the Post your Pub Stopover section on here. There are lots that do it - I cant see the point of paying to join a scheme when there is so much info on forums like this!
If you look at the section you will find loads to try.

Yes. Spent 16 nights away over Christmas and New Year in the Lake District. It was more of an adventure than a holiday. A mixture of CL's and wild spots. Wild camped one night when it was -18, got snowed in for 6 days in Hawkshead, got stir crazy and went to Windermere on the scooter and crashed it on the way home on the ice. Camped on the Honister Pass on New Years eve where someone let fireworks off the top of the mountain. Used a lot of gas but the van was warm as toast.

Im sick of the crap weather though and will be off to warmer climates as soon as poss!

Wow !. I bow to your wilding ability. Not suprised you went stir-crazy either. I was thinking about the whole concept of Free or Wild camping recently and feel that it is not important where you do it, but just the freedom that it gives you is worth its weight in gold, to coin a very old phraze.

Regards, Stuart
