Just beggers belief !

I find it hard to believe that the insurance co would have paid out £39k rather than repair the damage.

I thought that at first, almost posted the same thing, then it ocured to me that they may have paid out before the vehicle was recovered by the police :)

If the police had recovered it, would the owner have been given the chance to buy it back? Or would it have gone to auction? I notice that the "thieves" who stole the seats put the nuts back onto the captive bolts. Very thoughtful of them wasn't that? I think I will tell my insurance that someone has pinched my wheel trims, see if they will write the van off then let me buy it back cheap!:D

If you read the ebay listing it doesn't say that the vehicle was stolen, just that items had been stolen out of the vehicle.:confused:

24k or so to buy 39k or so payed out what are the insurance company thinking about . i cannot see how a couple of seats a cushion and the odd bit of latting and labour 2 hours at most comes to 15k give or take that is the loss to the company .but then the company that is selling the van must be making a nice proffit so how much did the insurance company let it go for after the payout to the owners. make no wonder our premiums are heading to the moon quicker than the space shuttle

Other factors also need to be taken into account.

If the Insured is entitled to a equivalent hire vehicle untill theirs is repaired, that could cost £750 per week. If the the manufacturers are then quoteing 20 week delivery times, suddenly their is £15000 worth of hire charges to add in. Plus 20+ weeks of large vehicle storage another £2000, and you havent even started the repairs.

At this stage paying out £39000 and recovering £20=£22000 is quite an attractive option.

Don't get on at me ------ biggiraffe said it had been recovered by the feds.:D Blame him:eek:

Yes it was me, I is that man :)

pretty sure I used the word maybe

Not sure if this van would be a good purchase, I expect it now has a record with the insurance company so if you tried to sell it on it would come up as having issues. But if you were wanting a van to keep for a long time, what a fantastic buy :)

There is no mention of damage to the doors or locks so I wonder how it was done???

just be careful on ebay

It might not be relevant to this ebay item but be very careful about motorhomes on ebay where it says "only available to pre-approved bidders". These vans are scams and I've told ebay about it many times.

You can spot it because when you click on a dodgy one the screen refreshes and you get an actual email address to make contact with.

The vendor does put together a very plausible explanation about it being right hand drive, and divorce settlement but don't be fooled.

Sorry Bernard but what do you mean about right hand drive, pre approved bidders or divorce.
Or am I being stoopid (not unlikely)
