Hi Jenny, Nabs......the thread could be "Power packs to start a dead battery" ?? Maja

There was another thread about this recently... I'll see if I can find it...

Edit to say: Here's one but I'm sure there are others... Jump starter

Have a good read through... there were quite a few differing opinions, as you'd expect, plus some links to different models. For instance, this one is more powerful than the one in your link but is cheaper...
Suaoki G7 Car Jump Starter Battery 600A 18000mAh with Air Compressor, Green: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike
...this is one we fancy.....Maja

Thank you, will have a read. I had seen the power pac thread and another linked from it but they weren't aimed at jump starting a MH. Will read the link before I ask any more questions

I was hoping to provide a link to the one I have but no longer available on Amazon. The one in your link looks very similar in fact and likely a variation on the same unit.
My Camper is a 2.8L Diesel and I have used the jump pack a few times, and all when temp below zero. A very worthwhile item to have available :)

Yes I tried opening your link a few times but jut got 404 error. I meant to post last night but got sidetracked reading the other thread then looking which one online. The one I eventually picked seems to have the most power in relation to engine size. Was a it confusing as there were three different '10' models and all saying 400/800 but only this had the 6 litre petrol 5 litre diesel.

We will see as went to mine last night and starter battery is completely dead. Suspect battery needs replacing unless I didn't turn something off I should have done as it had 180 mile run when it was parked up. If it starts it I can get it into town to get a new battery fitted/old battery tested whatever is needed. Plus I had been looking at the power pacs for recharging iPads and iPhones, I know this isn't a power pac but with older van and bad memories this may be a better bet for us :)

Got to the van last night with fully charged lithium jump starter that I ordered earlier in this thread. Starter batter well dead, nothing at all when you turned key and by last night habitation batteries had gone down as well.

Connected the jump starter but it would not start the engine. I followed the instructions for the unit which said you could only have it connected for 30 seconds at a time and after trying to start you had to wait 30 seconds for the next attempt. This was not sufficient for the state of the battery, it needed something trickling in for a while before trying to start and it says not to do that with the lithium unit.

Dug the jump leads out this morning and hooked them up and they wouldn't start it either. Had to leave it hooked up with car running for about half an hour before it fired up.

I cant say if it would have worked if the battery was in a better state but certainly not on a proper dead battery on the Merc 2.7 unit.

I have other uses for it charging iPads, iPhones and watches and I had taken that into account before I splashed out so am still happy with what I paid to use it as a power pac and emergency torch.

Didn't realise this was the same thread where tyre inflators were discussed, I have info on that as well.

The last two Vauxhalls I have had have come without a spare wheel but have a little compressor you can slide a bottle of tyre sealant into if you get a puncture. I have previously used these compressors for blowing up trees on my cars, bikes, trikes and sidecars but never to the pressure in a motorhome so didn't comment earlier.

One of the tyres was down on the van last night so I connected up the Vauxhall compressor and let it run. I took the tyre to a little over 5 bar no problem. It would have kept going but I haven't checked what they should be yet so left it at that, certainly enough to get it to a commercial pump.

So ... the little compressors can easily cope with motorhome tyres. It will probably depend on the quality of the little compressor same as anything else though

Glad you didn’t have any trees in the van ,that would be a big bang

First thing i would be asking is why are the batterys going down, second if there that flat time to dump them.
Get your self a set of solar panels and a charge spliter so it wont happen again.:hammer:

Last time I used mine it took 3 goes to start the 2.8L engine. Battery was around 11.7V I think and wouldn't turn over the engine at all.
you mention the habitation batteries were low? Have you a split-charge system that has been enabled without the engine running? If so, wondering if the packs boost had been putting its charge into the habitation batteries when you tried it and the starter battery lost out?
just a thought.

Electrics baffle folk,i had a young chap come to me a while back saying his m/wave wont work,i ask had he looked at the fuse,he said he did not know where the fuse was or know how to change it,this chap teaches my kids at school, god save us all i ask you.:lol-053:
So most dont know or understand lecy in there van and thats why this site is so brill as we all like to help each other, long may it continue.

Yes I think I have left something switched that I shouldn’t have that has drained the batteries. Thought I had worked out what I had to do with control panel but seems probably not.

Will keep jump leads in van now and see what happens.

Ha ha, I went through all the fuses Trev, found one that had been added in engine compartment that was blown but no idea what it was for.

I am no expert by any means but can usually find my way round on 12v stuff. There are an awful lot of wires scattered around in there and I suspect a few are probably left from stuff that’s no longer in there. My first thoughts were to pull them out and start again but I am going to see how it goes first.

I think it had solar in before but was removed by a previous owner, some of the wires are probably from that, there has been a lot changed from original I know that. I will be getting solar on it but thinking later in the year
