Parking Ideas
Park at AF Albano Lazerial, SW of Rome(12ml), has water, noisy until 11pm, as 5-a-side is played, also local busses use it as a stop linking multiple routes. Train track behind parking but low down in ground thus a small rumble only heard.
Could use it as a base as train station approx 1/2ml down hill. Train takes 50min to centre Rome.

Park at Garage Berardo at Via Scarperia. (easy to drive to but use sat nav to help guide you last mile off the main carriageway.) Euro15 /night, has facilities. We prebooked online but the chap at gate did not know about it. After parking, walk back to main road Lidl opp for replen, also bus stop on left - but you need to walk 250m right to Bar Paradiso to buy bus tickets initially. Best then to walk on another 150m to next bus stop. (Identified by a yellow post with bus no(s) on board with list of stops) #781 takes you to a railway Stn Trevente, there you can get #87 to centre. about 25min for 781, 20min for 87.
Tickets cost Euro1.50 for a trip of upto 100min duration, in this trip you can use 1 metro or Train with as many bus journeys you need. Busses every 15min,

Food
Supermarkets are found in city centre on main or minor roads, Easily seen are Trovis or Mateo - beware the very thin narrow outlets stuck in between others as twice the price we found.

Fuel
Many stations, lots of road side terminals, prices were 1.43 to 1.52, add 20cents/L if you need service, so DIY is best.
Care to be taken for older Euro 3 or older vehicles not to go within 1mile of city centre, potential LEZ fine.

Entry
June 29th is St Peter & Paul holiday, some locations close early at 1pm.
Last Sunday of every month free entry into Museums, Good opportunity to get into Vatican Museum to see Sistene Chapel and St Peters Basilica - but be prepared to get to a queue unless you wake at 5am. Queues travel quickly so maybe a 2hr wait.

Churches and Basilicas are free, usually open from 9 to 8
Getting into St Peters' piazza takes 20min with security, especially so for Wed meet with Pope.
You must prebook the Borghese Gallery and select a time Slot, annoying but over 6days stay we only had one option available-grrr.

Distances
Walking is possible to most main sights, in the heat it is very tiring, but plenty of water fonts for filling bottles. An example of our journey is:. 9am bus 492 from Cipro, NW above Vatican City, (Metro also at same loc), travel over river past Castle Sant Angelo, to Plza Navora, visit church and fountains, walk to Pantheon (10min), walk to St Ignazio (10min), upto Plza Colonna to see columns and palaces, (12min), walk to Trevi Fountain (10min), upto Spanish Steps (15min), upto Plza Poppolo (12min), metro back to Cipro.
Arrival at 2pm. Similar journey time, metro Cipro to San Giovanni, visit San G.Lauren, San Clement, Colloseum, S.Pitro in Vincoli, Fora and Plza Campiglio (city centre) then bus 87 to pantheon area, to get 492 to Cipro.

Mid Budget
Book apartment (£500/5nights) near Vatican City,
Drive to location - double park to unload baggage - park at Garage Barardo, get #781 to Trevente, then train (platform 6) to either St Peters or Aurielia, walk to aptmt.
Daily
Use bus and Metro to get furthest place away for day excursion. Walk to chosen sights then bus/metro back.

Airport Info
Ciampino, can park 30min free at car park 6, then 6.50 for next 30 min.
Taxi to city centre area is Euro30, look for white signs on taxi doors, most taxis are Toyota Auris hybrid. Beware if location is outside walls of city cost is more.
Fumincino taxi is Euro45.

Overall a good experience, be aware of pickpockets, Dirty streets, and street traders hawking for sales.

Tip - Get a travel guide book from UK charity shop at least a month before you go, and prebook the Borghese.
