The iphone forum app has now been submitted to Apple. It can take up to 6 weeks for approval but as seen as it is available I will let you all know.
This app is free to all members and allows you to use the feature of the forum from an apple device.

I will try and get the Android app submitted later this week.

Didnt know about this but its great news.

Will it be fairly low bandwidth then as this is one of the reasons I dont post much on here when away in the van? We were away five months last summer and I posted on Facts quite a bit as they have a mobile version (text only) which on an iPhone is ideal.

I found using most forums when abroad on the iPhone too slow.

Look forward to giving it a go and free as well!!

Thanks

Tapatalk forum app with other sites it's free for site to list but you have to buy app only about 60p and makes life so easy :)
Could you add wild camping site to their list please

How is an app any different from simply logging on via your smartphone's web browser, apart of course from it being a slightly more simple one-touch operation?

This isn't a criticism, I'm genuinely interested in knowing. I can access this forum perfectly well on my Android phone by opening my browser and finding the site in the ten favourites that it offers me. I have many more than ten of course but my browser has this feature where your chosen ten are listed up-front.

Does a dedicated app give you any more advantages apart from a five second speed advantage?

sounds good, as with others when using the iphone last year on the outer Hebrides to access wild camp site spots from the forum could take a while.

Any plans for an App with POI on googe maps or something similar ? i know i can open them on google earth and my Iphone Tom Tom Ap but its a fiddly to get up the street wiew on the iphone. I realise i want everything :D

This sounds to be an interesting idea too....it's £1.99 actually lol...however I've now got it and will give it a try on my iPhone 4S.

Just an update - Wildcamping forum is available through this app right now.

There will also be an android app.

The apps allow you to use the forum / blogs etc from your mobile device.

This has nothing to do with Canalsman's POI files

Same question as Northerner.

Why do we need an app to access the forum. Why can't we just log in using the web browser on the phone? I haven't got a smart phone yet but I am looking into getting one and don't understand why we need all these different apps. Is there more functionality than with the web browser?

When you view this site on a small screen it means doing a lot of zooming and scrolling to be able to read the text in a comfortable size.
Some of the features wont work on all smart phone browsers.
You are transferring the entire page (graphics, etc) each time you change page.

With the app it is formatted for the size of the screen correctly and it only get data from the main database rather than loading the web page. This means it uses less data and is faster. Most phone companies (except for 3) are now limiting their customers data usage.

Thanks for adding the app Phil
Now I'm up to speed
Life got so much quicker for me as a multiple forum user to track and post bits
