IPAD or ANDROID, your thoughts

So guys n gals, what would you go for and why??
I really cannot make my mind up at all with this as I like both the Ipad but have seen a very nice Tablet in PC World.
Anyone with any = or - points would be a great help, ta.

To be honest I prefer the Ipod to the Ipad, just more portable.
Each to there own I suppose

IPAD or MAC BOOK?

Personally I would go for the IPAD as it is has a lot going for it and it is likely to have a lot more updates and apps available as time goes on. However, I was in the same situation as I wanted an Ipad for taking away with me in the motorhome. For me I found the Ipad quite an expense and limited for the money. In the end I opted for a 2nd hand macbook for the same price as an Ipad, although not as portable it has so much more to offer. The only problem with the current Ipad is it doesn't have a USB port. This can be a pain if you want to transfer files, but you can get around this by using blue tooth, emails or an SD card adaptor.

Hope this helps.

I'd never buy anything from Apple purely on principle.

They have consistently and cynically ripped off European users pricing their goods much higher than the US prices and also been guilty of restrictive practice worse than Microsoft trying to tie their OS to hardware extremely similar to the PC, hyped out of all proportion that it is something superior.

Definitely not ipad for the blatant market manipulations for one, but also for the low level of actual hardware you get for your money. No USB, no SD card slots, no camera, no flash for internet videos, etc. etc.

Apple have consistently spent many times the amount of their competitors on a slick marketing machine whilst selling very mediocre hardware tied up in knots to their own brand of locked down software.

Hmm, anyway, just some pent up aggression there...

I would recommend looking up the Archos 70 and the Archos 101. Both are android tablets with capacitive screens and a very nice spec. They are being released as I type with starting price of 229 and 279 pounds respectively. Funnily enough i'm off to buy one today, as working in Singapore atm and they are already in the shops here. I tried out the 70 last week and it was very impressive. Battery life is quoted as approx 10 hours surfing and 12 hours video playback.

I'd stay clear of the chinese 'apad' type android tab as sold by Toys R Us, etc. Had a play with a couple of them here and they get very frustrating very quickly. Also no real support available.

If you are more patient than me there could be a definite bonus in waiting until Q2 next year as i'm sure there will be a flood of new devices to the market by then, and prices will come down as specs go up.

Cheers, Rich.

Thanks guys,
The stupid part about all of this is that I don't want to take yet another contract out as got a USB dongle, so the ideal thing would be to find a Tablet that has usb which will accept the dongle. I know I could also get an Ipad Sim free and just fit the sim from the dongle.............. I don't bloody know:mad:
The other thing is making sure that it can accept my wife's pharmacy work (BNF, Drug Tariff books etc) as she will use it more for her work. I know people see this all the time, but it is more for the wife HONEST :D
Music and Film i'm not bothered about as have a 160gb Ipod Classic and 64G Touch, which docks to the TV for the films.

I have used an ipad 3G and a Samsung galaxy tab.

The Ipad is a big iphone and in my opinion it is too big, if you wanted something that big you could purchase a good notebook for the same money. There are more apps for the ipad and itunes is excellent. The Ipad does not have a flash player and this means many websites and online games will not work. Apple have strict control over the apps avaliable.

The samsung tab is a big phone really, the screen size is big enough to watch movies on and ok for web browsing. It has built in GPS and google voice navigation. It works as a phone and takes a standard sim card. No usb but does have a micro sd slot. I like the Tab as you can carry it around without to much effort. The pc interface software is not as nice and user friendly as itunes, but it works. It has two cameras and takes HD movies. The rear camera has an led flash.

They sell the Smasung galaxy Tab at Costco, so if you have an account go and buy one and try it. (you can return anything within 30 days)

Cheers Phill, the problem i have is Clair's medical books that she uses. Providing it can support them, then all is solved.
The more and more I think about it, the more I am warming to just getting a new note book for her, or take a look at HTC's range of gear (so that I can just put the Sim out of my dongle into the unit).
I think that Ipad is off the agenda.
Thanks all for input on this

I just dont get what the ipad is all about. Looks pretty useless to me. You could get a good laptop for the same money with a proper keyboard and of course USB ports!

Its strenght is ease of use. Someone with no computer skills can be surfing and email in minutes. No viruses.

The only thing I would say about that though is firstly I bet those that buy them are not beginners and are already expert in using a proper computer and secondly if a complete beginner uses one at some stage they are going to need to use a proper computer and will be lost. I agree about the viruses.

I will never be convinced. I think I'm perhaps a IT dinosaur having worked in the industry for 25 years I don't get excited by gadgets anymore, its just a job to me. I just need stuff to work and do what I want it to do. I can see why people do like this sort of stuff though.

One of this Ipads biggest advantages is long battery life. As far as internet access is concerned I bought a vodaphone PAYG sim card and Cut is down to a mini sim size using one of the many available templates on ebay. You have the choice of any payg sim depending on your personnel choice. Ehen abroad I buy a local PAYG sim for that country diving me reasonable cheap access whre ever we go. The ipad has its limitations but these are fast being eesolved by varios apps. Even though we carry a laptop it now never gets used.

iPad and iPod - the perrrrffect combination. ;)

As a mobile I am convinced it just cannot be beaten.

As for the iPad then it is the perfect portable partner. Store photos from your camera whilst travelling, read eBoooks and save taking a pile with you. Download films to watch if you don't have an onboard TV. Great little keyboard for web surfing and emails - so much easier than the one finger stabbing on the phone for longer messages. I just LOVE mine and wish I had bought a bigger one (only got the 16gb version).

Regarding the Samsung Galaxy Tab: All my collegues who have used them extensively now were glad to give them back
