IOW 5 Nights Inc. Ferry, £105.

Iow

Lenny

I took this offer up the other year, thought it was good. You take your dog on the ferry up front, nice short crossing to the IOW. We chose the wrong site though, treated as antisocial because we had a dog also the 'swimming pool' wasn't just over the road it was well through the all the statics, I'm not sure it was open and if it was, it certainly wasn't inviting.

Really enjoyed the IOW, but not a patch on the outer hebrides which were only just double the price and I think the CalMac tickets are valid for upto a month.:D

I know which I'd choose

I have been threatening to go for 3 years(joined the site and get regular emails) but not made it yet ,the drive down is same as Dover so keep opting for France

We did the IOW Sept '08, and stayed on The Orchards Caravan Site. The bus stops right outside the site gates, and everyday we went to a different resort, on the bus. Our van never moved off site for the 5 days we were there. All the routes link up at Newport, and you can go anywhere on the Island.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, but only came back to the site in the evening. There is loads of interest on the Island for all tastes.
Being over 60, we enjoyed free bus travel, and took packed lunches out with us each day (skinflints), but we had a beer or two each lunch time, in the knowledge that the bus was taking us home :D
We also love the Outer Hebrides, and you just can't compare the two, cos they both so very different.
Try it..enjoy!!
Jackie ;)

We did IOW last year, and just like you used the the buses for free most days. Excellent island to visit, if a little windy

We took advantage of this offer for Christmas and spent 7 nights at the Waverley campsite in East Cowes Waverley Park Holiday Center, Cowes, Isle of Wight. We were going to go for 5 nights through Red Funnel but when I called the campsite they did a better deal where we somehow managed to get 7 nights for about the same price. Came to £132 for a week including the ferry and MH (7.5 metres).

Site was ok but Im not into campsites really. to be honest 5 days would have been enough. We were led to beleive that the IOW was a laid back quiet place but I suppose it depends what you compare it to. We spend a lot of time on the Isle of Arran and have done 18 scottish islands including the Shetlands and Orkney and I know you cant compare but I thought it would be similar to Arran but its really busy. Big main supermarkets and stores, McDonalds etc. I suppose its because its in the south where they are used to being over populated. Some nice places to see (Osborne House is great) but we wont be going back.

We heard you were deported barryd.

Lager louts give us Northerners a bad name!

married... IOW is no different from the mainland ... overpopulated ... civilised :D..
can't be compared with the Scottish islands... totally different ;)

can't for the life of me think what you could get up to on that tiny place in 7 days... you can drive round it in an hour

if you are into sailing then i can see the attraction... if not...osborne house is all it has to offer the tourist

regards :D

I am into sailing but to be honest there wasnt much sailing going on. Only saw about half a dozen boats out all week. Softy Suveners I reckon!

It was just another place we hadnt been so its ticked off the list now. The best place we found in the south was Devon. Fantastic. Wished we had just gone straight there now but nothing ventured etc. Cornwall is great as well but I wouldnt fancy doing either in the van in the summer when its busy.

Some may love the IOW but for me I prefer more wild and less populated places.

The next trip down that way and indeed all future trips will involve a night at Dover and a one way ferry ticket to MH paradise.

Yes I was right.......DEPORTED! :eek::eek::eek:

Now he`s making excuses why the place is not very good.

He got the bum`s rush by the authorities. :D

Just found this offer in the local  Ad Trader, (Thats the yellow free ads paper where I live), Looks a good deal to me ;), although I hav,nt yet read the smallprint yet:eek::)

Why can a car and caravan be 13m overall yet a motorhome can only be 6m. conning Ba*****s if you ask me:mad::mad:.Or dont they want Motorhomes on the IOW.

I went there last year on business for a few days. Was looking at the condition of some fairly remote bridges, so did get round the island a bit. I'd agree you could motor round the whole Island in a day and the place is very populated compared to what it used to be. What with locals and tourists the place is packed with cars on the single carriageway roads espec around Newport. A nice place if you like long queues of cars!

According to the campsite we booked through (The Waverley Park) they arent very strict over the length issue and I dont think we paid much of a surcharge. It also stated on our ticket, height of 2.6 metres which is strange as they automatically put you on the lower deck anyway which as enough clearance to take huge lorries, buses etc.

The bus service is very good and you can buy a rover ticket for a day or even a week. I think the weekly ticket for unlimited travel is only 20 quid. There are a lot of 6ft6 restrictions off the main road and you can get caught out like we did. At Ventnor which is a lovely little resort on the south eastern side we took the van down to the sea front and up the other side to the car park with great views. No restrictions so far. From before the car park back up the steep winding hill and very narrow road its one way and guess what? a 6ft 6 restriction. So you cant go back as its one way and you cant go on because your to wide! We would still be there now if I hadnt decided to break the law and go for it. To make maters worse I belted up the winding one way 6ft 6 lane only to discover 100 yards further up on a tight and very steep bend that it was no longer one way and met 2 cars coming down. Got out in the end but be warned!

If you have a scooter or are fit and have push bikes use them!

The main road round the south of the Island (Military road) is very scenic and the towns of Ventnor, Yarmouth , sandown, Fresh water bay and Shanklin are worth a visit. Newport is ok but its just like any other medium size town you would find on the mainland and that was the problem for me. I didnt feel like I was on an island. A lot of the roads are not coastal and its just not got an island feel whereas the Isle of Arran for example is much less populated, has a complete coastal road and is much more MH friendly not to mention of course Wild camping heaven!
