Consumption
Dear All
All mains appliances in the uk must have written on them somewhere their power consumption in terms of:
Operating Voltage ie: 230-250v a.c
Power consumption ie; 1000W ( Watts )
or
Operating current ie; 4 Amps
........................................................................................................
All three are related via the formula Watts = Current x Volts
So if you know the Watts, say 100W and you have a 12 volt supply then;
Watts/Volts = Current
For this example,
100W/12V = 8.3 Amps ( a 10 Amp
fuse would be needed )
But at 240v it would be, for the same appliance,
100W/240V = 0.42 Amps ( a one Amp
fuse would be needed )
Remember, Current consumption goes up massively when you use 12v on mains appliances.
Fuse every appliance correctly and too, make sure the
fuse is close to the supply (
battery ).
