Hi there, just thought I'd let people know that Maplins are selling a 12volt to 240 volt inverter (max 150 watts) inverter, half price at £19. Enough to run my new laptop! Sorted:)

if its the yellow one with two 12v and 1 230v outlets and usb charger and a light then i highly rec. i've had one 12mths (cost £30) its portable too has 2x6v batteries.:)

Anything over about 300W inverter and it's a 25 Amps plus current so Cig lighter socket no good. The bigger inverters come with thick cables you strap straight on the battery. They come internally fused and overload protected so no need for fuse in the cables.

I bought a 1000 W inverter from Maplins this Autumn. About £80 but that could be down to about £70 if you use the Maplins discount vouchers. Max current on that one about 83 Amps. Divide the wattage of the inverter by 12 and you'll get an idea what the current is.

A 1000W inverter working at full load will flatten the average battery in less than an hour. It wont even work that long as they inverter will probably detect low voltage supply after 20-30 mins and cut out.
 
If you are after a cheap low power invertor try ebay. I got a small 150w one for about £10 incl postage this year to use in the car ciggarette lighter for my laptop. It came from hong kong in about 7 days. Its not particularly well made but perfect for the occasional use it is put too :)
