Invercoe campsite, Glencoe

I know that everyone here is all about the wild camp, but I thought I'd share this pic from one site we always go back to when we are in Glencoe - Invercoe.

The site has great facilities and the owners are lovely, we tend to just pull in and hook up, and if we don't go and find them (sometimes you just have to get the kettle on don't you?) then they pop by and take payment.

It's close to the pub and because it's at the top end of the Glen the views are spectacular and there's even a little beach there too.

We've also gone for a night or two bringing friends with us who then stay in the 'hobbit homes' which have a basic bed area, light, heat, a kettle and a fridge so they bring their camping gear and have a cosy night too. I took this pic a year or two ago, it was a lovely, lovely night :)

Nothing wrong with using a site. I use them when my wife is with me, but not when I am on my own. We do tend to use CL's and Cs's more than full sites, they are cheaper and less regimented.

Having said that, we have stayed at Invercoe, and it is as you describe it, lovely.

I think we first stayed there because we had been on the road for a while and wanted to top up/empty tanks etc., but they were so laid back there we really liked it. Since then every time we've been in Glencoe we've wondered where we should pull up and have always just ended up heading back to Invercoe... all this talk is making me want to head back now... maybe next weekend ;)

We have stayed at the Clachaig Inn, the Ski resort, and the Red Squirrel. But these days, whenever we are up there, Julie always prefers to just head straight for Invercoe.

Do they still allow campfires at Red Squirrel? We never stayed there because we heard it was quite midgey.

They do, their rule is;

"Small campfires are allowed on river beds & old fire spots (Beetwen 7am - 11pm)"

Last time I was there I was in a tent, but there were some small campervans there. I tend to go to Glencoe in the Winter months, so not sure about the midges.

Winter is also the best time for hillwalking there, no midges and less boggy ;)

That is a superb picture, stunning back drop and, star filled night sky!!

We'll check out site next time in the vicinity.

It was one of those that I took and when I reviewed it I couldn't believe how well it came out!

Does the inn allow overnight parking?

(We visited already at Glen Coe the Invercoe Campsite, the Squirrel and the C&CC)

We have stayed on this site many times the present owners father Jimmy Brown started the site whilst still farming over the road he always complained about the wild campers from the Red Squirrel campsite sneaking in at night to use the showers.

The first time we stayed there used to be a metal dustbin at the side of each pitch his helper came to our van one day and asked us did we not want our bags back puzzled by this I got out to speak to him and realised he had emptied all our rubbish bags into his truck and had the bags in hi hand as I said no he said . Is it ok for me to take them.

We made good friends with Jimmy and others from Ballachulish sadly most have past on now.
