Interior electrical problem

Hi,
I’m about to use my m/h for the first time I only purchased it before Christmas last year I know I’ve asked this before but was wondering if it is normal because of its age that the interior electrics only work when hooked up. I have a Peugeot Boxer 2.0L HDI Avantegarde 2002 even if the engine is running and on hook up no habitat electrics work but as soon as the engine is switched off the electrics work gauge for interior electrical system is constantly 14.3v rising to 14.6v. Where I’m going Monday 14/4 I’ve booked a pitch with hook up.
I know I’m going on a bit (lol) but just trying to get the details across I do have another little problem which is the speedo works intermittently I thought it was the speedo cable but took out clocks no cable so I think it’s the speed sensor in the gearbox is that an easy fix.
Thanks in advance Al1969.

The older British vans automatically cut the power in the habitation area when the engine is running.
I had an Elddis 0n a 2002 plate and that had the cut off, the Anantgarde is a similar van, so imagine it's the same set up.
As for the 240v electrics they will only work when on hook up.
You would need an inverter plus more habitation batteries to have 240v off hook up.

The current ones are the same :)

Your habitation power will be off if the engines running.

If it’s your first night then take some advise, see if you can change the pitch to hook up. Then don’t use the hook up, I know that sounds wrong, but your batteries will have a limit, your usage will be whatever it is, your fridge will use gas at some rate, you and your partner (if you have one) will place a demand on the water/gas/battery and you don’t know what that demand will be (don’t think for one moment that you’ll find before you spend a night in the van)

So when on your first night you flatten the battery/ run out of gas etc give yourself a get out, when the battery goes flat, the gas or water runs out the toilet cassette is full or the toilet doesn’t work be near a tap a toilet or an EHU. Then whatever issue you have on night one you’ll be able to enjoy the van/stay and work out what you need to do next

e.g the truly excellent (OK I wrote it!) "Dummies guide to MoHo electrics"
which starts by explaining why the micro wave doesn't work in lay bys, and progresses to tables showing how your solar power varies by location and month.

Full member or free member there is a lot to learn and a lot of enjoyment to be had from your MoHo

When people start insulting you then you know that you an accepted.

Welcome.

Never understood why they did that .
Previous van , Benivan , though Spanish was built in UK . Habitation power off when travelling.
New Benivan , built in Spain , power on

Hi
Many thanks to those who replied to my message about interior electrics problems at least I now know that they only work on hook up.
My other problem I had was with intermittent speedometer working it isn’t a speedo cable as does not have one fitted it’s a electric cable from clocks to a connector to what I presume is a speedo drive in gearbox is this easy to change.

Not forgetting on some vans if the engine is on the gas hob wont work, also the hob lid needs to be up even if you only need the grill or oven.

Memebers of this group have MoHos based on many base vehicles.
You may be better off asking this on a Boxer FB group or search YT.

I have a 2002 Boxer 2.0 hdi and it definitely has a speedo cable! The changeover must have been later that year.
Just to clarify, you should have 12v electrics (auch as lights, taps) when the ignition is off without being connected to 230v hook-up.
