Insurance using VIN/Chassis Number

Hi all

I am buying a motorhome in Germany; whilst I can get export plates with 3rd party cover, I have asked AIB for a quote (excellent price) but they cannot issue cover on VIN (they informed me).

It's a catch 22 situation, I would like fully comp cover for my trip home and I need insurance for UK registration.

Any suggestions please...? I have searched but found no previous thread which covers this.

did you talk to Adrian at AIB ? he is the man to find a solution to most things.... there was a very similar question to yours recently on this forum but my leetle grey cells have forgotten the answers... more searching might find it....

Contact Safeguard 0800 011 306411 Caravan Insurance | Online Caravan Insurance Quote | Safeguard UK. I have had a motorhome brought in from France, and while the company handling the importation brought it in on their trade plates, I still wanted it insured against all the other risks. IIRC, Safeguard will insure from the foreign port to a location in the UK, plus any driving required to get it UK-registered, such as MOT if it's more than 3 years old, VOSA inspection if there's no CoC. Out of interest, what make are you buying and is it new or used?

I got a road legal quad insured on a vin number prior to it being given a number with AIB.

Ask again.
