Here’s one got a call from comfort insurance today regarding renewal. Now here’s my thing van is now 5 years old so I’ve been decreasing the value over the five years the thing cost £105k new. last year I had it insured at a value of £85k. But with the value of vans going through the roof I thought I’d re asses the situation so I’ve scoured the internet for same van to see what they are fetching. To my horror and amazement I can only find one van the same. Same year condition and mileage in a Dethleffs dealership at £120k so if I had to replace van if written of I wouldn’t get what I have at current valuation. What is the actual value of the thing at what value to insure at. Think they’ll be a few of us in the same boat.

When I reinsured my Motorhome, I added £8k to the valuation and the brokers were ok with that. (I did add a few £000s worth of Electrics as well, mind)

I thought you could only get gap insurance on new stuff up to 3 years old. Looking at what I’ve seen it’s worth more now at five years old than it was when new. I know the one Ive seen was in a dealership and the price is loaded but even taking a bit off for that the value of MHs has went coo coo

It’s a really weird situation when I told the girl from comfort she couldn’t get it. I Bet there’s a few of us in the same position worth thinking about when you renew policy

GAP insurance pays the difference between what it’s worth and what you paid for it in event of it getting written off or stolen.
The longest period of GAP I have seen (and bought) is 4 years on a vehicle up to 180 days old IIRC. After buying it for the first time and then taking advantage of it giving me £6k more than I would get from the main insurance I am a convert to buy when available :)

But this was on a car. Way motorhome prices have gone as Wully says, not sure if it is worth it?

I'll ask them wot have an insurance display stand at the NEC for a quote for mine. You know, the one with a spinning wheel and hoping for a year's free insurance if it stops in the right place and then you win a lollipop when it doesn't. I think they are the company that wouldn't give me a quote last year, when I first bought it. It's a 2009 Hobby, the best built of dozens of Mohos that I have owned and worked on.

Something i have been threatening to do for a while was to sit down with a local insurance broker and sort out my spiders web of business and personal insurances. Sat down with one today and sorted the motorhome insurance first. He got me cover that I’m happy with European breakdown cover unlimited windscreen cover and a value of of £120k guaranteed. So outcome is £140 more expensive than last year but far superior cover. Now for the cars vans home and business insurances.😳🤑

I went to the NEC. They wouldn't quote for my motorhome "Because it is based on a Ford Transit and they are too easy to overcome the immobiliser".
Never mind, every other insurance company will, and the CC&CCCC whatever they are called gave me a very nice quote thank you very much.

Mines due so I will be delving into the insurance quotes I am currently with AIB but depending on there renewal price I will get quotes from elsewhere.
