if you have two vehicles registered in your name........a campervan and a car....
.have you been told by insurance company that you
can only have no claims protection on just one vehicle,

thank you for any replies....trrixie88

Insurance companies by and large make their own rules up....

Decent ones will often allow mirroring of the NCB

No claims bonus (NCB) mirroring allows an insurer to recognize a driver's existing no-claims discount on a second vehicle, even if the NCB is already in use on another policy. This means a driver can get a discount on their new policy based on their driving history, even if they can't transfer the full NCB from their existing policy.

Some do, some don't. But you can bet if you have an accident it will affect all policies!
i was wondering if that would be the case (accident effecting all policies)...i know you have to tell them about all accidents when taking out new policy or renew policy

however, i would have thought you would be able to have No CLAIMS PROTECTION on both vehicles you own....and not limited to one vehicle??????

Worth Bearing in mind too it's a no 'CLAIMS'

Discount not a no 'BLAIMS' Discount...

So most companies will still peanalise you even IF it's considered not YOUR fault...

Unless you have protection that SPECIFICALLY protects your no claims discount in a no blame way...

Sadly insurance companies really are quite slippery and border on sharp practice at times.

Insurance companies are a fcuk ing nightmare in general, I have max NCB on three vehicles. had a no fault claim in 2023 (parked vehicle hit by a truck) whole thing covered by a security camera. My insurer tried to say it was a 50/50 claim.

That they said removed my NCB discount on all 3 policies.

They did actually put it all right, paid my claim in full and didn't effect my NCB on any policy, but only after a letter threatening from my solicitor.

If you had 1 vehicle and then added another then in most cases the existing NCB will NOT apply to the second vehicle. But as Misterriceman said each insurer seems to make up their own rules as they go along.

I have 5 vehicles registered in my name each has their own NCD allotted oto each one. But of course if you made a claim on one it may affect the others in some way

We have owned multiple vehicles for decades, at no time have we been limited to only having NCB on one vehicle, are you sure you've been told that you can only have one NCB, and not been told that if having a second vehicle you need to build up a separate NCB for that?

thank you

thats what i am tryiing to find out.....no claims PROTECTION.....,,,been told can only have no claims PROTECTION on one vehicle

Highly unusual for a claim on one vehicle to affect others.
Usually if you can claim your uninsured losses ,eg excess , back from other party no claims discount will be reinstated.
Introductory discount should be available for a new additional vehicle.
At least that was the case 10 years ago.

Usually no claim discount will only be available on vehicles currently earning maximum no claims bonus.
So if you get a second vehicle you may get an introductory bo us but will not be able to protect it until you have earned maximum bonus on that vehicle.

you are right...ins. companies are a NIGHTMARE

Another insurance company niggle is I found CAMC insurance will only take NCD on an existing motorhome policy when insuring a motorhome, in other words they would ignore the 20+ years NCD I had on a car policy. Thankfully not all insurers are so stupid.

Yes we also have no claims protection on multiple vehicles, and have had this for decades.

Yes i had this problem, when i bought the corsa i had to start again.Luckily the value of the car was quite low because i wasn`t keeping it long or so i thought at the time. ROBBING BARSTEWARDS. 🤣

NCD is applied to the premium. Even if NCD is protected, if you have an accident in any vehicle, this is likely to affect the premium in respect of any vehicle that you insure and drive, on the basis that you have now become a higher risk, and the protected NCD is then applied to that higher premium.

NCD is also a bit dated, was a good, tool before computers came on the scene and all the data stats that they generate enabling a much more accurate risk analysis.
