Changed van to Autotrail Frontier so Club Care Insurance decided to hike insurance from £300 to wait for it.........£1400. Said it was a new van to us therefore added premium. what a load of tosh. Comfort Insurance - £520 and breakdown cover and legal all in for £571. This means I can ditch the overpriced RAC Arrival cover that comes with the Club Care Ins for about 250 a year. On another forum same story, C&C are going sky high. Be careful when changing van, get a quote off other companies.

.
I used to insure through the C&CC but they changed the Insurance provider to AEGIS and my premium doubled. So I went back to Caravan Guard

I think the insurance industry are the biggest scammers out there it’s got worse over the last ten years you can have a policy for years and they try every year to sneak an increase in somewhere it amazes me when you phone them to tell them that you’ve found a cheaper quote they can magically Mach it with a saving of hundreds of pounds always check online for another quote.

Beware of the Arrival Insurance from RAC / CCC it is only good for 90 days out of uk ie Europe travels for longer than 90 days.

Insurance

There's no logic to it. C&MC raised my insurance by £60 to £466 for van worth less than £30k. Thought b....r this. Got quote from AIB...over £900. What??? Tried NFU...over £700. Probably cos only 2 years no claims, because previously insured under wife's name in the days when it was cheaper for ladies...despite me never having had a claim for 20 years. Back with C&MC.

We are changing vans and Saga would not give me any time to get an alarm fitted, so we also have moved back over to Comfort, have 14 days to fit the alarm and saved money.
Paid £399 with full European breakdown and recovery!

Comfort gave me 28 days to get an alarm fitted, but although they were happy to issue a policy, wouldn't cover theft of the van until the alarm was actually installed. Ended up with Safeguard, about £20 more but full cover from the start, although with Comfort now as they still came out cheaper on renewal.

Not mh but car insurance we went with Tescos, had a no fault accident before this years renewal (no claim just informed them), was expecting a price hike but it actually came in around £20 cheaper so stuck with them.

Should always shop around, a couple of years ago my house insurance went from just over £300 to £550. I stopped the auto renewal and went online to shop around and got same cover for...

...£102

I had a discrepancy on my license dating back over four years ago my insurance is due 18 March get a call from Aib do I want to renew long story short they quoted £1600 hiscox oouch went online shopped around and got cover from comfort even with the discrepancy on licence £890 Aviva with European breakdown cover still not cheap but they value the van not what it’s worth now but on cost of new replacement And that’s with a tracker cat 6 and a cat 1 alarm. So thumbs up for comfort

Why do you need breakdown cover on a new van? I found Fiat rescue excellent.

You know what I never gave that a thought or looked into that I just thought best to have it anyway especially for Europe. Now you’ve got me thinking wonder if it’s the same type of cover.

With breakdown covers, key cover, a lot of the bolt ons many policies have non contribution clauses. In effect if you are covered by another insurer the cover in effect is revoked .The issue is if you have say a policy as part of a bank account and a separate insurance if both have NC clauses then in effect neither will pay ! You get contributory clauses too where any claim will be dealt with 50/50 etc despite FSA attempts of cleaning the insurance industry conduct is still sadly lacking

Variations in premium I do understand ( note understand don't agree with) Insurers are running in effect a book no different to a bookmaker at a racecourse they will shorten and lengthen odds to match a desired portfolio that can be age of proposer occupation postcode even colour to match a profile.

They clearly take advantage of the fact insurance is a legal requirement,

Saga also insisted on a tracker as well as an alarm when we bought our new van.

Taking out cover with C&MC does not necessarily mean you are actually insured. In my experience Devitts proved to be a bunch of crooked incompetents who cannot be trusted.

I had a similar experience with C & MC ie Devitts. Beware of them.

Just had my renewal notice. If it hadnt been for the 2 percent hike in IPT,it would have gone down

IPT has increased to 12% from 10% from the 5% when it was introduced.Soon be at the same level as VAT.

A real piss take

There isn't an Insurance Company on the planet I trust, they are ALL scammers, they are great on taking the cash, not so good at giving it out, they all hide behinds reams of small print that would take the average lawyer 6 months to fathom out. Its all about the getout clauses when a claim comes through. I hate the lot of them. They show zero loyalty to their customers, and NEVER NEVER NEVER take out an automatic renewal. I am not just talking Motorhomes here, I mean EVERY COMPANY you have a contract with. They will milk you for every penny they can if you are stupid enough to let them. HAGGLE HAGGLE HAGGLE with them is my message to you. EVERY time I do this I get a better deal, don't just roll over like a lapdog. Get what you want, or just move on to the next company untill you do. Of course everybody has to have insurance I know that, its only being responsible, and I do realise that if it wasnt for all the Lowlifes making bogus claims, insurance premiums would be a lot lower. Just do your research and don't fall for the first snakeoil salesman that crosses your path.
