Right bought the motorhome, now all I need is the insurance - Ive been told I need The Thatchan cat 1 which I will have to put on before I pick it up - Anyone know the best insurance to go with ??????????????????
Thatcham cat 1 refers to an alarm/imobiliser.
As for insurance - take your pick - there are several companies about and depending on your circumstances/address/age etc some will be more competitive than others.
I am with the Camping and Caravanning Club (Vantage Insurance) which works for me.
I am sure that others will advise soon.
I am with Red Star through Adrian Flux and they don;t inst on an imobiliser although fitting one brought my premiumsw down.
£320 Comp. this year but that is with limited 14000 milage.
Sureterm is a good one for me and the son-in-law, they ofcoarse try to "up" the renewal but stand your ground they will reduce in price also tell them you was refered from a fellow campervaner and you are a part of this club/forum.

Hello
I am only in my second year of motorhome ownership. The first years insurance was with Sureterm but as seems to be the case with all motor insurance policies you get a good deal the first year and a big hike in premium when you come to renewal. This year the best deal I could find was through the Caravan Club.I did not particularly want to join the Caravan Club but even including the club membership fees the insurance was the best I could find for my needs.I don't understand insurance company strategy there seems to be no benefits for loyalty. It seems you have to shop around every year or get ripped off.
Thanks for all the replies - good to know theres help out there if I need it - Pick it up in 2 weeks, carnt wait but im still a bit unsure about driving it - its quite long, I have driven a minibus so should be ok !!!!!
It depends very much on your needs. We are with Safeguard (just over £300 per year) because they provide 12 months European cover, complete with breakdown recovery, at a lower premium than any other company we have tried. If you are not bothered about taking the van abroad you might find a better deal elsewhere but I throw their name into the equation because they are well worth a look.
