I have been in contact with Richard Burn from Insurance choice, they have offered a 10% discount for wildcamping members and a commission if a member joins. They have also offered to have an insurance section where they will offer unbiased advice to members with insurance questions.

This seems that this could be is a win win win arrangement.

Members could help support this site, get cheaper insurance and free advice.

Just wanted to let you all know.

What sort of banner placements are they looking for in return? With the traffic this forum gets fixed banner placements are worth several hundred quid.

Most insurers give 10% for 'club' membership so they are not giving away much there. A insurance section would be useful, I doubt the advice will be completely unbiased though...

I will just mix the banners in with the adsense ones that we already run. They have not actually asked for anything from us, just offered stuff really and it was me that contacted them.

Although as you say the advice may lean towards their services it will be nice to know that we have some advice available for members.

Also the extra income will mean a better site for its members.

I intend on doing this for other services too, but we will se how it goes.

Indeed so, and to maximise the income, I would think a cost per click or per impression, or even a flat rate per year, would be better than a commission on policies sold.

Frought with danger, I would treat an insurer as an advertising revenue. And let their content remain no more than that.

The sale of General Insurance is a regulated activity, and can you guarantee they are constantly evaluating the total market to offer best advice ?

If they are taking a selection of insurers are they transparently conveying that fact.?

just be careful

They might not be asking for anything from you yet. But once they start paying you, if they do, then they'll want something in return. Analyse your posters for them.

Then maybe you should charge people for access to these 'discounts'. You could make some ca$h from that eh.

Then you could convince someone else to do the same and get ca$h for that.

It's a slippery slope and everyone gets screwed...

what do they cover?

If they are interested in the activities of this forum then I assume they would be offering insurance packages which others don't. Like including personal possessions:D While you parked up late at night in a secluded spot not on a caravan site and you have nipped out for a nightcap:eek:
