Insurance advice needed for conversion

We have sold our motorhome and bought a more discreet go anywhere Vw van to convert into a camper.
However the insurance company will not insure it if its the only vehicile but will insure it once its complete.
Any advise on the easiest way around all this?
Would we be better just insuring the van as a van then once its done do the paper work then insure it as a camper?

quite a few companies do camper insurance for self builders and give you a fixed period to finish the conversion,adrian flux is one,look on sbmcc for more info

adrian flux would not insure my self build whilst it was being done, and where very unhelpful, even tho i was already a customer with campervan ins.
i now use these, and have had no probs.

I found insurance choice to be the bestI got camper inc before the windows was even in they give you 3 months to do it
