can anyone tell me what the rocker position should be on the battery when the van is parked up for awhile. I lost my husband last year and he used to deal with all these things. My brother has lived with us for a number of years and he has taken the motorhome on, so that we can still go out a few times. We went out on Saturday and she wouldn’t start. We got the battery checked out and everything was OK. Wondered if this rocker switch had something to do with it. Any advice please. Thanks

Was it the starter bat you got looked at, is there a master battery isolation switch under the hood, is the starter stuck with sitting, you require someone to look at it im thinking.

Trying to view the attachment and keep being told account upgrade required. I'm logged in and as far as I can tell can view other threads and contents.
Any ideas anyone?
TIA.

Hi Ithoel2. The rocker needs to be in the position it is in the pic. That way the battery that is under the bonnet, is for the engine only. The rocker should have a central position that is off. Hope thats clear. (y)

Thank you myvanwy

if it had been left on the engine side (left) would that have run the engine battery down and do I put it onto the van side when we are using the van. Hope that makes sense. I don’t drive so I never took any notice of what my hubby used to do with the switches

Personally, I would never have it on the van side. It would soon run down the engine battery especially if you have a fridge. The van side would only be for emergency in the event of running down your onboard/leisure battery and if that has happened there must be a fair load being drawn. The leisure battery should get charge when the engine is running no matter where the rocker switch is.

Thanks for the messages. She wouldn’t start again yesterday. Engine was just clicking, got the breakdown, he checked everything and said it was the battery , so having one fitted this morning. Hope that does cure it.

Thats because the chargers in vans dont do the engine battery, you can get round this with a relay and switch, or replace the old charger with a numax two way smart charger, or two units ,one 10ah for les batts and a 1/3ah for starter.
