In Cumbria/Lake District this weekend?

Andy, the only time we wild camped at Earnsie Bay, a few years ago, we had an official looking police notice stuck on our windscreen during the night, saying we were not allowed to camp. What really annoyed us was the warden had spotted us during daylight but was too cowardly to face us so stuck the notice on when we were asleep.

Hiya Christine, have stayed there on occasion never had any problems there are no signs forbidding overnighting.Fairly quiet although you do get the odd car driving up in the night fisherman/courting couples, not much litter up towards the nature reserve nearer to the chalets you do get mcdonalds wrappers etc.The kitesurfing event is being promoted by the council i will give them a ring tomorrow to see what the policy is on overnighting,on a normal weekend there are three or four vans all night.Looking at video from 2007 i expect many more to do the same,Andy:)

Andy, there were signs at some time forbidding camping etc, although they did not look official. We were told (when we wrote in protest at our nasty experience) that the land was a protected area and camping of any sort was prohibited. Maybe things have changed but it will be interesting to see what the council have to say.We now camp at the other end, on Honeypot Lane. Much quieter.

Hi Christine,Tried at the town hall for information when i mentioned the kitesurfing competition they put me through to the tourist information, who couldn't give a definitive answer.Tourist information then gave me an 0845 number for Cumbria police who then past me on to Barrow police help desk who gave me some helpful info.Recently at Earnse point a private landowner had erected some no camping/overnighting signs after someone had out stayed their welcome on several occasions, the landowner had made a complaint to the police who attended and then decided the signs were non enforcable and can only be used as a deterrent:pThis only applies to the shore past the chalet park so be careful if you park elsewhere.Looks like i have to work weekend so don't think i will get to see the kitesurfing but anyone who is attending ENJOY:):cool:Andy

Interesting, Andy. We will now feel ok about spending a night there. Will also go and see the kite surfing at the weekend. Thanks.

Went along to have a look at the kite surfing, Andy. Quite a big affair and conditions looked ideal. Couldn't understand why this never had any publicity, nor were there signs to it. There were, however, no overnight camping signs!!

Hi Christine,Did you not see the sign just past the chalet park on the left as you were driving up,by order of broughton estates i think that is one of Lord Cavendish's companies(Holker Hall):( glad you were able to attend,i did manage to get over saturday evening. The days competition had ended but there were some kitesurfers still getting in some practice, took some pictures will try and post them tomorrow.Andy.

Yes, did see this sign, thought it said no overnighting? It also said Boughton Estates, but I am sure it is something to do with Lord cavendish.
