I'm banned from Stonehenge...by my wife.

I mentioned in passing tonight that as my wife is going to London with one daughter and meeeting the other one I might head south to spend the Summer Solstice at Stonehenge. She was not a happy bunny and said I would be arrested as a hippy sun worshipper. Ever since we've had the van I've been waiting for the chance to head off on my own for a few days, so she has no chance of stopping me. Anyway, I've always wanted to spend the solstice there, must be the Druidic genes in me;)

To busy, for my likeing thats why I've built my own standing stones :banana:

We were thinking of going but as its on a Thursday so will be in work:cry::cry::cry:cry:

Hope you do enjoy if you manage to sneak away:ninja:

It's not a good time to go to the Henge. They close the track off for camping and it's very crowded. We'll probably do another meet there sometime but not solstice or equinox.

just put a big sticker on the side of your van, custom and exise fuel testing service,
probably get the whole place to urself..:D

I actually prefer Avebury

I'd like to do sunrise at Stonehenge just for the experience, as I've spent half of my working life living in the past...

Try rings of brodgar in the orknies similar gig and you can approach the stones....loads of free fishing too...a bit further granted.

Actually no idea if the druids get there etc....but it is a stunning place....slats. brae,a stoneage village to see, Maes how stoneage burial chamber and vandalized by vikings...

And Errm more fishing...whales diving on the scuppered we1 German fleet....

Channa

Wildcamped there at the solstice a few years back - great stop and you could, as you say, approach the stones. Not many people there - maybe a couple of dozen or so and a hippy with a drum - and the local cats protection league who were trying to raise money by forming a human chain around the stones. They didn't have a good day - they could only get enough people to stretch half way round and soon left the place to the few of us (and the drummer) after we refused to buy their raffle tickets (after all, they didn't complete their task and I hate cats anyway! ;))

fancy uphellia some time soon, viking long boat fesiviel but its in feb so frosticles withing the sleeping quarters.

I went there on a boys trip in the VW's and we met this mad woman at the stones dressed in a werewolf costume. She followed my mate all the way to Loch Lomond! I know. You couldnt make it up.

Sounds a bit like my ex., Always wondered what had happened to her.:D

The rings fascinate me.

I'm hoping to get up there later in the year, I find the fact that they managed to excavate ditches from solid rock fascinating and there is plenty of current archeology up there to keep me busy.

Are you sure she was dressed up..............................?:D

Lots of excellent places on Orkney. I'm not in to all this religious stuff but must admit that there is a certain 'feeling' about these places
