identity theft

Does anyone on the forum personally know someone who has suffered from identity theft?
I had a phone call today from my van insurance company offering to flog me insurance against identity theft. The script they were using was very scary, I can only assume it was written by a psycologist or the like. For every negative reply I gave they had an immediate reply with examples of the dire frognostications that could follow if I didnt take out the insurance. They used examples of people having mortgages and the like taken out in their name. They pointed out that identity theft has increased by 500%, even so, I do not know anyone myself that has had a problem with identity theft other than the usual stuff about credit card theft. I've declined their offer for now.

it seems another way to get money out of you.
you want to check it out & dont jump into anything.

Cheers Tony, I had a fair idea that it probably was just the "man" touting for more cash. I found it a very intimidating phone call though. I wouldnt be surprised if many people would be so worried that they would just roll over and pay the premium. I'm seriously considering writing to the insurance company and asking them to explain the hard sell tactics. After all they should be able to listen to the call themselves as they said that they were recording it for security purposes.

Hi Kreos who is your van insurer? so's I'll know to avoid them.
